Three Conversations At The Same Time
Ministry Update May 13, 2018
It was wonderful Friday night to have seven of us downtown witnessing. Conner brought Pastor Joshua with him and Thomas came with his brother John, who join Kelly, Steven and I. Conner and I were the first ones there, so I read the tract Poor Peddler (a Chapel Library tract) while we were waiting on the rest of the group. Then we sang a few hymns before Kelly brought the first message. Then Steven read from 1 Corinthians 2. After Steven, Conner brought a message.
Early in the evening I asked Pastor Joshua if he wanted to preach and he said he didn’t think so. Later on I pointed out that even if I asked him again, I wasn’t trying to hound him. At one point he said that he might preach. We chatted a little bit throughout the night. Pastor Joshua pointed out Romans 10:17 and remarked that people walking by can’t unhear what they hear.
To that I said Amen. That’s what compels us to open-air preach. Even if they walk by us mocking and hating God’s truth, they can’t unhear the truth and we firmly believe that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Then I mentioned that sometimes when you hear some other guys open-air preaching, it makes you want to preach too. Lifting up the precious name of Jesus in the open-air is my highest form of worshiping my Lord and Savior. As soon as Conner finished his message, Pastor Joshua didn’t hesitate one bit. He jumped right in there and gave a very clear presentation of the Gospel.
I always thank and praise God when men come out and share the Gospel, whether that’s through handing out tracts, conversations and/or open-air preaching. May our Lord be glorified. We were also blessed with three conversations at the same time. You see, just as soon as Pastor Joshua finished his message a young couple walked by. Without missing a beat, he reached his hand out and offered them tracts. They took them and then he continued sharing the Gospel with them and they politely listened.
Even while Pastor Joshua was preaching and afterwards, Thomas was across the street having a conversation with a fellow believer named Larry. Then caddie corner from where we were, Kelly was talking to Joshua. Kelly asked him if he considered himself to be a good person, Joshua said he thought he was. Kelly gave him a tract and encouraged him to read it.
Since Pastor Joshua was only a few feet from me, I held off starting my message until he finished his conversation. I didn’t want to interrupt the Gospel being shared with this young couple. Conner was standing next to me and he leaned over and said “there are three conversations going on at three different corners.” Thanks be to God. It was a great sight to see – three conversations at the same time. We ended the night singing three more songs. The ironic part was we had more mockers during those three songs than we had all night long. May the Lord save lost souls through the conversations, the preaching and the tracts, all for His honor and glory.
All Mockers And Only Mockers
The week before at MSU I had all encouragers with the exception of Quinn reading Green Eggs And Ham for about 30 seconds. Well, this week was the exact opposite. It was all mockers and only mockers. There were no encouragers, at all. Quinn skated up and promptly started reading Green Eggs And Ham. I was bringing a message about how people worship the one true God or they worship someone or something else. I quoted Romans 1 where it says people worship the created rather than the Creator.
So when I talked about that, I looked over at Quinn and I asked him if he’s a tree hugger. He said f-yeah. Then I pointed out to the students how the Bible is proved true once again before our very eyes. But most students didn’t seem to pay much attention to the message. What I did see though was sort of a mob mentality, a feeding frenzy. A couple of students walked up to Quinn and gave him fist bumps. Another girl walked by laughing and cheering Quinn on in his trying to hinder the Gospel going forth. Still others waved and yelled their approval toward Quinn, including another skateboarder. After a few minutes Quinn said, “Peace out” and skated away. Of course, he just says those words since there is no peace without the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. May God wake up this spiritually dead generation.
