Die Then Nothing?
I run into people all the time that say they are absolutely sure that nothing happens after we die. It’s beyond me how they even remotely think they can absolutely know this. How can you say for sure that you die then nothing? Do you believe this today? Do you think you die then nothing happens after that? You just become maggot food?
Let’s see what the Bible has to say about this. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says: He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end. According to this verse, God has set eternity in your heart. In other words, you know without a doubt (no matter what you want to believe or claim you believe) that it isn’t just nothing after you die. God has set eternity in your heart. You know there is more than just this life.
Eternal Glory of God
The apostle Paul is talking to followers of Jesus Christ when he says in 2 Corinthians 4:14-18: Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Problems In This Life Are Temporary
Paul mentions that our problems or afflictions of believers is nothing compared to the glory of spending eternity with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Everything that we see in this world is temporary, but the next life is eternal. You will spend eternity in Heaven or suffer the torments of Hell forever. It’s one or the other, no third options. The apostle Paul also talks about eternal glory in 2 Timothy 2:10: Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
Daniel also talked about the reality of eternity: And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands for the children of your people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever (Daniel 12:1-3).
Everlasting Life (Eternal Life)
I’m sure that most of you have heard John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Those who die in their sins – perish.
But perish isn’t annihilation. Perish is eternal suffering. Jesus called it the second death. But it is never ending punishment for all unrepentant sinners. Jesus said it is a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth. Oh, but those who repent from their sins and trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, receive eternal life.
In 1 Thessalonians 1:6-9, Paul tells us: Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.
God’s Vengeance Of Flaming Fire Against Unbelievers
Please notice Paul describes God’s vengeance against unbelievers as flaming fire and he says that they will be punished with everlasting destruction. Everlasting means eternal. There is no end to the suffering all who die without Christ will endure. This is not a game. You don’t just die then nothing. You don’t get a second chance. This is not like a video game where you die and you have another life waiting for you.
If you die in your sins, if you die in your rebellion against God, the flames of Hell await you and your punishment will last forever. This is what compels us to come out here and share the Gospel with you. Awake o sleeper. My hope and prayer is that God will jar you awake from your spiritual slumber. That He will give you eyes to see, ears to hear and that the Lord will soften your hard hearts.
In John 4:35-36, Jesus says: Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then comes harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit unto life eternal: that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together. The Lord is speaking of eternal life.
The Resurrection And The Life
Jesus also said the following in John 11:25-26: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?
The apostle John says: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides for ever (1 John 2:15-17).
Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will you also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that you are that Christ, the Son of the living God (John 6:67-69).
God Is The God Of The Living
And Jesus answering said unto them, Do you not therefore err, because you know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. And as touching the dead, that they rise: have you not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: you therefore do greatly err (Mark 12:24-27).
And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life (1 John 5:19-20).
These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you: As you have given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (John 17:1-3).
Eternal Life
Please note that I have quoted verse after verse about eternal life. You may claim that you die then nothing, but you know better. God has put eternity in your heart. Jesus and the apostles spoke of life eternal. You know there is more to all this than just this life. You know it.
So why do some of you deny it? The Bible also has that answer too. You suppress the truth in unrighteousness. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:16-18).
Yes, the apostle Paul says that you hold the truth in unrighteousness. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness. You have a God-given conscience. God has written His law on your heart. Each and every one of us knows that we are unrighteous and that God is righteous. You know today that you are a sinner and that God is Holy. But for those of you who deny Jesus Christ, you do so because you suppress the truth in unrighteousness.
Do You Love God Or Your Sin?
In other words, you love your sin. You love your sin instead of loving God. Jesus even spoke about this truth. He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved (John 3:18-20).
If Jesus Christ is not your Lord and Savior, then you love the darkness rather than the light because your deeds are evil. You don’t like what I’m saying today, you don’t want to hear it because you don’t want your sins to be exposed.
But it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). We are all going to die one day. Over 150,000 people die each and every day. One day will be your day. One day will be my day. I’m prepared to meet my Maker. Are you? If you die today, will you go to Heaven or Hell? Oh, stop denying Hell is real. Stop pretending that you die then nothing. You know God is real and you know His righteous, just, eternal punishment is real.
Heaven Or Hell?
So where would you go? Heaven or Hell? It’s one or the other. There are no other options, no matter how much you wish or hope there are. Jesus said His sheep hear His voice. The goats do not. You are a follower of Jesus Christ through repentance from your sins and faith in Him or you are still spiritually dead in your trespasses and sins and you are headed for Hell. Oh, don’t foolishly continue going down the road to Hell. Repent and believe the Gospel.
Don’t continue rejecting such a great of salvation. Recognize that you are a sinner. Confess your sinfulness to God. Cry out for Him to save you. Repent from your sins and surrender your life to Jesus Christ and receive eternal life. Come to Jesus today and be saved. Repent and put your trust in Jesus. This is life eternal, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (John 17:3).
He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him (John 3:36). Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the Lord shall be saved. Call upon the precious name of Jesus and be saved. Be saved today.
