There wasn’t much foot traffic downtown Friday night. I handed out less than 10 New Testaments at our normal witnessing spot. Then I walked to the square and about a half a block away I heard the name of Jesus being proclaimed. First Assembly in Strafford, MO had evidently obtained a permit for Friday night. I didn’t want to interrupt their service, so I handed out New Testaments to people standing near or sitting around the edge of the square. Afterward, I walked back to where I started. On the front page of the Opinion page of the New York Times on May 31, 2019, there was an article by Amber Scorah titled: Surviving The Death Of My Son After The Death Of My Faith. It’s a heart-breaking story of a baby boy that died at only four months old. Amber Scorah doesn’t believe in God, so she has no hope. No hope of ever seeing her child again. Friday night witnessing was a little strange this week. It was Artwalk and there was a band on the square and the street around the square was blocked off to traffic. Also, just North of our normal witnessing spot, Jefferson was blocked off to traffic and there was another band playing there. They were so loud, that Conner and I crossed the street and I brought a short message with the amp at about half volume. One guy stopped and shook my hand and thanked me for sharing the Gospel. But after I finished, Conner said that he wanted to go to the square and talk to the Atheists set up there. We did talk to them, but turns out Atheists demand the impossible. [Read more…]

Saving Faith

I know people who only have intellectual knowledge of Jesus. They believe that He suffered God’s wrath over sin while Jesus hung on the cross. These people believe that Jesus was beaten beyond recognition, that Jesus suffered, bled, died on the cross and rose from the grave three days later. Because they believe these facts, they also believe they are saved. They believe that they won’t go to Hell when they die, all because they believe these truths about Jesus. While my wife and I witnessed at Planned Parenthood on Wednesday, there were seven cars there. A guy was out front smoking and as soon as I started bringing a message, he quickly put the cigarette out and took the young child that was with him back inside. Evidently people don’t see the irony of bringing small children to Planned Parenthood. We had a couple cars honk in support of us being there and one driver yelled his displeasure at us. He slowed down as he drove by and said, “Shut up idiot and go home!” [Read more…]

Jesus told His disciples to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). There are an estimated 400,000 Christian missionaries who literally take the Gospel to the farthest ends of the earth. Missionaries are in most countries around the world. We had another blessed time witnessing downtown Friday night. Scotty McCreery was performing at the Gilloz Theatre and the weather was perfect, especially after all the recent storms. So there was good foot traffic and we had the usual mix of mockers and encouragers. Lately during my normal Bible reading, I’ve been reading in the book of Leviticus. Yes, this is one of those books where a lot of people start out strong reading the Bible through Genesis and Exodus, but they get bogged down in Leviticus. This book names several sins and the sacrifices the Israelites were to offer for those sins, to atone for their sins. Pastor Joshua, Kelly, Conner and I had a great time witnessing Friday night where there were some interesting conversations. All four of us did open-air preaching. Gospel tracts and New Testaments were handed out. We always have a great time visiting. But the short conversation that ended the night was a guy that was concerned about the actual day of Jesus’ birth. He kept asking us, “What day was Jesus born on?” [Read more…]

Kentucky Derby Outreach 2019

Pure Hatred

Thirty-one evangelists from around the country participated in this year’s Kentucky Derby Outreach with Sports Fan Outreach International. Yes, it rained again, both days. But the weather was warmer than last year and we actually had periods through both days where it wasn’t raining. There was a lot of open-air preaching during the 12 ½ to 13 hour days Friday and Saturday as well as hundreds of Gospel tracts that went out, New Testaments were handed out as well as one to one conversations. There were many positives to this year’s outreach. But what struck me the most Saturday night (before and after the actual Derby race) was the pure hatred. The pure hatred toward those who were open-air preaching, the rest of us near by and especially the pure hatred toward God. [Read more…]
