Young people may not realize this, but tv’s used to be black and white. Police cars back in the 1970’s were called black and whites because they were painted like the police car pictured above. Black and white may be considered an old fashioned term. People nowadays want to talk about tolerance. There always seems to be shades of gray. We don’t like to think in terms of black and white or right and wrong. [Read more…]
A lot of young people talk about zombies and the walking dead. It’s almost like you can’t get away from this subject. But instead of talking about the walking dead, I want to focus on the phrase “dead man walking.” Back in the 1960’s, correctional officers used to yell out “dead man walking” when a death row inmate was taking the last walk down the hallway to his execution (the state of Missouri used to carry out the death sentence by using the gas chamber). We all sin. Even born-again believers still sins. So the question is: What do you do with your sins? Do you try to hide them – like Adam and Eve tried to hide themselves in the garden of Eden after they sinned (Genesis 3:7-8)? Or do you confess and forsake your sins (Proverbs 28:13)? I gave up diet sodas about two months ago. I used to drink six to eight a day. Now my wife and I are focusing on eating healthier and exercising. I hate giving up sweets, but I know I need to do it. When it comes to exercising, I usually think that I’ll start tomorrow. Why do we put off exercising? We know it’s good for us, so why do we put it off? [Read more…]
I have an old high school friend who tells me every now and then that I need to slow down my religious posts on Facebook. He’s concerned that I’m coming on too strong. In fact he recently described what I’m doing on Facebook as “Facebook pulpit overdrive.” I appreciate his comments and his concerns, but I don’t see myself backing off any time soon. [Read more…]
Do you remember that feeling the first time you fell in love? Some people call it puppy love or maybe infatuation and others call it being enamored. Whatever you call it, the feeling fades away over time. Now don’t get me wrong, I think true love – say for your spouse, gets stronger over time. You may not feel that giddy love like you did initially, but if you truly love someone, that genuine love grows stronger over the years. You truly want to be around that person. You miss them when they are gone. It may feel too comfortable sometimes, but love is a wonderful thing. [Read more…]
Even though my youngest daughter is a teenager, she is still afraid of the dark. I keep telling her that God is with us in the night time just like He is during the day. But she is still terrified of the dark. Personally, I’m afraid of heights. People are afraid of all sorts of things such as spiders, snakes or mice. Others are afraid of losing their job, their home or losing a loved one. [Read more…]
