In addition to some people wanting us to leave the Gospel out of our messages others want us to leave out The Law. They want us to leave out the 10 Commandments when we preach in the open-air. God Loves Everybody Bongo Man
We witnessed downtown Friday night and it was cold cold cold . It was 23 degrees outside and with the wind chill it felt like 8 degrees. Aaron, Diana, Elise and I sang a few hymns and then I brought a message Leave Out the Law. While I was on the box, a young man holding a bongo type drum came up and told me that I should tell people about God’s love. I told him that I was telling people about the disease before I told them about the cure. Then he said God loves everybody. I asked him where’s that in the Bible. He couldn’t quote the verse. So I asked him about Psalm 7:11 that says God is angry with the wicked every day and Psalm 5:5 that says God hates all workers of iniquity. On January 22, 1973 the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of a woman’s right to have an abortion. Since that decision 43 years ago, 58 million babies have been brutally legally murdered! That is a staggering number. The population of America is around 320 million and we have brutally legally murdered 58 million children. We make the monster Hitler look like a wannabe murderer extraordinaire. 58 million babies that God knit together in their mother’s wombs, who were made in the very image of God never had the chance to breathe the breath of life because they were viciously and mercilessly murdered in the place that should have been the safest place on earth. “What are you saying?” “Why are you doing this?” “Why are you yelling?” “Tell them about the love of Jesus.” “Nobody’s listening to you.” “This isn’t how you reach our generation.” “You need to talk to us one to one.” These were some of the comments that I heard last Wednesday at MSU, mainly from six young men that came over and talked to me after I finished open-air preaching. Every week I send out an email to my prayer partners about our upcoming events and I always say Lord willing. This last week was a perfect example of why it’s important to say Lord willing because I was so sick that I didn’t get to witness at Planned Parenthood or downtown. Ugh is how I feel, but God is sovereign and He is worthy of our praise. Aaron, Erica, Diana, Elise and Serenity witnessed downtown Friday night. That’s all I know, so I really don’t have an update this week. Lord willing, Aaron and I will witness at Missouri State University this week and then join others witnessing downtown Friday night.
Springfield Missouri is in the Bible Belt and I’ve always heard that we are the buckle of the belt. I think we can even make a good argument that we are the buckle. In addition to having a church on just about every corner, we have several bible colleges and we are home to the Assemblies of God world headquarters. So maybe we are the buckle of the Bible Belt. Even though it was Art Walk Friday night, it was below freezing and the crowds were low. Erica and I handed out tracts, sang a few hymns and I was on the box talking about The Buckle is Rusted when a young man yelled out “you are preaching hate.” I had to laugh and I replied “I haven’t even started reading the Bible yet. I’m talking about how sad it is that there are 900 kids in foster care in Greene County. How is that preaching hate?” [Read more…]
It’s just two days before Christmas and over 3,000 precious little babies will be murdered in the womb today – all around our nation. Over 3,000 precious little image bearers of God will never see the light of day. Over 3,000 babies will be killed today, just two days before we celebrate the birth of Jesus. So as strange as this may sound, we thought standing in front of Planned Parenthood is actually the best place to talk about the birth of Jesus.
