Friday night Polly and I went witnessing downtown. Another group was at our usual corner, so my plan was to go one block closer to the square at South and McDaniel. We got there before 8 pm and it was busy. This was the first Friday in August and Artwalk. So, several tracts were handed out on the corner. My wife and I witnessed downtown Friday night and we had a very pleasant night. We handed out New Testaments to start with. A couple of young girls walked by us and said they didn’t need them, but the one girl said you should walk around and talk to people. I looked at my wife and she thought it was a good idea. She asked me what I thought. My first thought was I have to “protect the corner where I preach.” But I told her that I wouldn’t mind walking around afterwards. [Read more…]

Friday night witnessing downtown in Springfield, MO started off slow but didn’t stay that way. Joe, Darlene and I got there first and handed out tracts. Most of the people that walked by rejected tracts, but a few took them. Then Kelly joined us, but it was still going slowly at that time. What Would Jesus Do (WWJD) was a popular phrase back in the 1990s. Many people wore WWJD bracelets back then. I did a little research and found that Charles Spurgeon used this phrase in a sermon in 1891 and he attributed it Thomas a Kempis who lived in the 1400s! So, the phrase What Would Jesus Do? is not new. But instead of focusing on what would Jesus do, how about we concentrate on what Jesus said? What He’s already told us to do? [Read more…]
I would die of cancer before being diagnosed at Planned Parenthood. This is not hyperbole, I’m 100% serious. This thought obviously never crossed my mind until last Wednesday. Doug and I were the first ones there at Planned Parenthood to witness and before we even got started, a very large man walked up to us and started chastising us for being there. “You’re causing a woman to die because you are here!” Excuse me? “Women are afraid to come here while you are out here so women may die of cancer because of you.” [Read more…]

Friday night Peter, Justin, Jimmy and his kids, Margaret, Serenity, Allen, Aaron and I started the night off singing hymns. I noticed the guy across the street watching and listening. After we finished singing and I was getting ready to bring a message, the guy came over and started talking directly to Jimmy’s kids. Trying to get them to not believe in Jesus. Gabriel the oldest son told the man that he’s a Christian (and I think his brother is saved too) so the man looked at the younger two and said something like “there’s still hope you two.” I turned on my amplifier and told Satan’s tool to walk on. When several of us witnessed at the gay pride parade a couple of weeks ago, besides being told “Judge Not” the other phrase that kept being quoted to us was “Love thy neighbor.” In fact, one guy who wasn’t gay told me that the gays chanting love thy neighbor was more appealing to him than our call to “Repent and believe the Gospel.” [Read more…]
