You Don’t Mean That
Ministry Update August 25, 2019
Wednesday was the first time witnessing this fall semester at Missouri State University. I really like witnessing at the campus and I miss coming to the campus during the summer. Students are excited at the beginning of the year and more students take Gospel tracts than refuse them. Over 90 students took tracts and I mainly was there to open-air preach. While bringing the message, several students recorded me as they walked by. I’m sure the new students had never seen this before. It was funny watching them record as they walked by and they looked straight ahead like nothing was going on. Did have a few mockers, including one girl that said, “Hail Satan” a couple of times as she walked past. I replied, “You don’t mean that.”
Hail Satan
The student said “Hail Satan” and I didn’t acknowledge her the first time, so she repeated it again. Since she was looking for a reaction, that’s when I told her “Young lady, you don’t mean that.” (I know I’m politically incorrect. Don’t mean to be, but I just said young lady. That really could have made her go berserk, but thankfully it didn’t. You aren’t supposed to use gender pronouns in today’s mixed up world). I continued and told her that if she really knew what she was saying, she wouldn’t say it. I said, “You can look around at creation and know there’s a Creator” (Romans 1:19, Psalm 19:1).
“One day, you will stand or bow before God and you will not be saying hail Satan on that day” (Philippians 2:10-11). Surprisingly, she didn’t say another word, but she heard God’s truth as she walked away. I pleaded with her to repent and trust Jesus. Then I pleaded with the other students within earshot to do the same, to repent and surrender their lives to Jesus. Yes, there were a few mockers but also had several students say hi and many gratefully took tracts. A couple of people even asked me what they were and when I said Gospel tracts they said thanks and went ahead and took one. It was great being back on campus and I’m looking forward to witnessing at MSU during another school year.
Ten To One
A friend of mine years ago told me that he used to be in charge of a sales force in sales and he used to tell the salespeople under him that it took ten no’s to get a yes. So every time you hear no, you are one step closer to getting a yes. Well, Friday night I wasn’t selling anything, but I originally had ten no’s and one yes when it came to handing out New Testaments. But it reminded me of what my friend told me years ago. After I brought a message, I walked around downtown and ended up handing out 15 New Testaments and several tracts.
It was a pleasant night witnessing downtown. The only mocker I had during the message was one girl walking with her friends yelled, “I like sex.” I just kept pleading with people to repent and put their faith in Jesus. But I thought to myself, “I’m sure you do like sex.” People love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil (John 3:19) and also sin is pleasurable for a season (Hebrews 11:25). But she needs Jesus just like every other unrepentant sinner. Also while open-air preaching, several people walked right in front of me so I, so I stopped talking as they passed. But as the last woman walked past me, she turned around and said, “I agree with what you are saying.” Thank God for sending the encouraging woman.
(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share the Gospel with others. Hand out a Gospel tract, share your testimony. Time is short. Serve the Lord today.)
