You Can’t Bust This Ghost
Ministry Update October 14, 2025
Doug and I witnessed downtown Springfield, MO Friday night and it was a strange night. We walked around downtown and handed out several tracts. But when we got to Jefferson and Walnut, there were flashing lights on a couple of cars across the street from us. At first, we thought maybe they were police cars, but eventually we figured out that they weren’t. They were a couple of Ghostbuster vehicles with lights flashing and several people were standing around in their Ghostbuster outfits.
The costumes were quite elaborate. One guy was “using” his ghost busting equipment on one of the statutes downtown. Several other ones were standing near their flashing cars. After a few minutes, I suggested we go over and talk to them. I walked up to a guy who seemed to be in charge and he told me they were there for 1984 (an arcade amusement business) – promoting the business. This wasn’t the response that I expected, so I didn’t feel like I could get into the conversation with him that I originally intended. So I just said something like it’s ironic that you all are out here busting ghosts, while we are out here sharing the Holy Ghost. You can’t bust this Ghost. The guy agreed with me. He and the young lady working beside him both took tracts.
A homeless guy took a tract and walked on past us. As we rounded the corner, he was sitting there reading the tract. I asked him if he knows Jesus Christ and he said that he did. I then asked him if he had Bible and after asking a couple of times, it appears he had one at home (wherever home is), but didn’t have one on him. He also made it sound like he thought God told him to just leave and God would take care of him. He’d been out on the streets for seven months. I don’t believe God would tell you to leave and not take your Bible with you. We gave him a New Testament. I pray that God will truly save him and help him. We had another interaction with another homeless guy, but he was quite angry and threw the tract on the ground. He raised his voice and started acting erratic, so we were glad when he walked away.
Toward the end of the night, we handed tracts to a couple of teenagers. I told him the tracts tell them about Jesus and asked if they knew Him and they both said yes. I asked them where they go to church and they named a large Pentecostal church in the area. So I asked them how they came to faith in Jesus. The one said his grandmother was a Christian and the other said he’d grown up in a Christian home. They were both kind of antsy, so I didn’t think they’d stick around very long. So I just told them that Jesus said unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. That it isn’t our family members or growing up in a Christian home that saves us. The Bible says we are to repent and believe the Gospel. They both nodded in agreement and took off. Doug and I hope and pray that they both read the Gospel tracts.
I Ain’t Religious
Allen, Loretta and I witnessed at Missouri State University on Wednesday. Allen and Loretta handed out Wedding Invitation tracts (about the wedding banquet – marriage supper of the Lamb in Revelation 19) and I handed out the Why Christianity Tracts. I brought a message and then handed out tracts. Then Allen brought a message after me. While he was preaching, a guy refused a tract from Loretta and turned around and yelled, “I’m going to Hell and you all are too.” Another student refused a tract and said, “I ain’t religious.” I replied, “Then this is for you.”
One girl nodded her head in my direction when I was open-air preaching. Then while handing out tracts, a student told me that he had gotten one last week (when we handed them out near Strong Hall). Then he told me that he appreciates what we are doing at the campus. One student refused a tract, saying that she was good. She walked by a little while later and refused a tract from Allen, again saying that she is good. I spoke up that time and said the Bible says that none of us are good. She just sneered at me. After that, I was brining a short message before I had to head back to work and this same girl walked by a third time. This time she was walking with two of her friends. So I just paraphrased Romans 3:10-12 where it says that none of us are good. None of us seek after God. We’ve all gone our own way. None doeth good, no not one.
Whatever God You Follow
Allen and Loretta were still handing out tracts when I headed back to my vehicle. I handed out some more Why Christianity booklets and one guy refused it and said, “Give it to someone that needs it.” I told him that it talks about world religions and Christians can use it for that purpose – to show the differences between Christianity and world religions. He seemed interested then and took one. I told him that part was on page 11 and he said that he had opened it up right to that page. So I suggested that he read the booklet and pass it one to someone else. I thought that I was talking to a potential fellow believer, but then he said, “God bless, whatever god you follow.” I was shocked that last part, but replied, “I follow the one true God, the God of the Bible.”
These updates are given to encourage Christians to share their faith with others. As this update reveals, there are many deceived people out there. Some blatantly, openly rebellious against God. Others who think they are good and yet others who claim to be spiritual, but they aren’t Bible believing followers of Christ. Satan has blinded the eyes of many pour souls. Share Christ Jesus with this lost and dying world.
