Why The Message – Beaten Beyond Recognition?
The death of George Floyd was horrendous and inexcusable. The policeman that callously choked the life out of Mr. Floyd should be punished. Just as horrible as this death was, the violent mobs around the country, especially those attacking people is also horrendous and inexcusable. The man in Dallas that was beaten unconscious was also a despicable, horrendous act of violence. All of this violence and other terrible stories of murder and mayhem around the world remind me of the one who was beaten beyond recognition. Why the message – Beaten Beyond Recognition? Because the one who was beaten beyond recognition is the One – the only Savior of mankind. Jesus, fully God and fully man, came to this very earth that He created and lived perfect, sinless life. The Lord never sinned, not one time. Yet He willingly went to the cruel cross to take the punishment that He didn’t deserve.
Worse Than Physical Suffering
Jesus suffered like no other. The Bible describes it in graphic detail and as bad as that awful punishment was, it wasn’t even the worst part. The worst part was that the Lord drank the cup of the wrath of God the Father. Jesus took the wrath that guilty sinners like you and me deserve. We are the lawbreakers. We the liars, thieves, adulterers, idolaters, drunkards and blasphemers. All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Yet, Jesus never sinned at all. Yet He was bruised for our iniquities. By His stripes we are healed. Jesus suffered, bled and died on the cross, was buried and rose victoriously from the grave three days later. Jesus defeated sin, death, Hell and Satan.
Salvation is for all who repent and surrender their lives to Jesus. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Oh, if you have never repented of sins and put your trust in Jesus, do so today. Now is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation. Receive peace with God,. Receive everlasting life. Recognize your sinfulness and God’s Holiness. Cry out for God to save you. Repent and believe the Gospel. Truly submit your life to King Jesus. Then read the Bible every day and share the glorious Gospel – the Good News with others.
