When it comes to your spiritual life, why do you believe what you believe? I have heard several people say that they think Jesus was a good man, that He said some good things to live your life by, but they don’t believe He was the son of God.
I’ve heard other people say that they believe the natural things described in the Bible, but they don’t believe in the supernatural parts. They don’t believe in the world wide flood, they don’t believe in the miracles that Jesus and the apostles performed. They don’t believe Jesus rose from the grave.
So again, I ask you, “why do you believe what you believe?” Do you pick and choose what you believe in the Bible? Do you not believe any of it? What do you really believe?
Personally, I believe in the Bible. All of it. Why do I believe in the whole Bible? 2 Timothy 3:16 states, “All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Peter 1:20-21 says, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”
Furthermore, Hebrews 4:12 states, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
I am partial to the Bible because reading the living Word of God is how God convicted me. I realized that I was a guilty sinner bound for Hell from reading the Bible. God opened my eyes to the fact that I had never fully surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. When God convicted me of my sins and that I wasn’t truly saved, I asked God to forgive me and I told God that I would turn away from my sins and surrender my life to Christ. That’s when God truly saved me!
So not only do I believe in the supernatural events in the Bible, I have experienced the supernatural event of salvation firsthand! God convicted me of my sinful nature through reading the Bible, the Holy Spirit convicted me that I was lost and doomed for Hell. I cried out to Jesus to save me. I did not want to be one of those shocked people on Judgment Day that Jesus says to “depart from me I never knew you, you worker of lawlessness.” I thank God that in His great mercy that He opened my blind eyes and saved me.
How about you? Are you born-again? Are you converted? Are you truly saved? Have you repented from your sins and surrendered your life completely to Jesus Christ? Or are you going to be shocked on Judgment Day when Jesus tells you to depart from Him, you worker of iniquity?
Eternity is a really, really long time, so what you believe is very important. You can believe in something that’s wrong (like a false god or false religion) and you can really, truly believe it, but you would still be wrong. It’s imperative that you believe in the truth; the truth of Jesus Christ.
