Who Is Lord Of Your Life?
Bob Dylan had a song years ago called “Gotta Serve Somebody” and it starts off like this:
“You may be an ambassador to England or France
You may like to gamble, you might like to dance
You may be the heavyweight champion of the world
You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You’re gonna have to serve somebody
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you’re gonna have to serve somebody…”
You’re Gonna Have To Serve Somebody
I love this song. It speaks the truth. You’re gonna have to serve somebody. We all serve someone. So, who do you serve? Who is Lord of your life? Do you serve the devil? Do you serve the Lord? Now maybe you are out here tonight and you say you don’t believe in God, but that doesn’t mean you serve the Devil. If this is what you believe, then you are actually wrong. If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, then you really do serve the devil.
It really is that simple. We all really do serve someone. If you have never repented of your sins and put your faith in Jesus, then you really do serve the devil. Even if you don’t know it, you serve the wicked one. Whosoever abides in him (Jesus) sins not: whosoever sins hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
Of The Devil
He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous (1 John 3:6-12). These verses are not talking about sinless perfectionism. None of us are perfect. I quoted these verses to show that we are either of the Lord or of the devil. Again I ask you, who is Lord of your life?
Blind Mind?
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world (Satan) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake (2 Corinthians 4:3-5). Has the devil blinded your mind? Do you serve the devil? Who is Lord of your life?
In John 8:41 Jesus says: Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not (John 8:41-45).
Is Jesus Lord Of Your Life?
Folks, I hope you see a pattern here. The Bible is very clear. If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, then you are of the devil, whether you know it or not. Whether you acknowledge it or not. Oh, don’t continue being deceived by the devil. Jesus said not only is the devil a liar, he is the father of lies. Don’t continue falling for the lies of Satan. He’s so deluded he even thought he could deceive Jesus Himself!
The devil tempted Jesus three times when Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights. But Jesus didn’t listen to the father of lies. Jesus rebuked Satan with God’s word. The Bible is powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Trust God’s word. Trust Jesus Christ.
Don’t Listen To Satan
Satan is a liar and a murderer. The devil will end up in the lake of fire and brimstone that burns forever. Everyone who dies in their sins, who dies being deceived by the devil will also suffer in the lake of fire for all eternity. Don’t listen to Satan’s lies. He promises you a great time. Just one more time of sexual immorality. Just one more drink or just get high one more time. Satan wants you to believe that there’s always time to straighten up tomorrow. He tells you this until you run out of tomorrows.
One day you will breathe your last breath. One day you will die. We all die. None of us can cheat death. Oh, do not die in your sins. Don’t die as a rebel against God. Do not die serving Satan, either willingly or unwillingly. Instead, come to Jesus Christ the Lord and be saved. Repent of your sins and surrender your life to Jesus. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Repent and put your trust in the Lord and receive life – everlasting life.
Folks, this is not a game. Listen to what the Bible says happens to Satan and to all unbelievers who die in their sins. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Great White Throne
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10-15).
Book of Life
How do you know if your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life? If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, your name is not there. The lake of fire and brimstone is what you have waiting for you, if you die in your sins. If you die outside of Christ Jesus. Please listen to what Jesus says in Revelation 21:8: But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Don’t miss this, Revelation 21:8 says all liars. That includes every single human being. If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, you are on the broad road to destruction. Eternal damnation is what you are headed. I ask you again: Who is Lord of your life? There is nothing, absolutely nothing in this life that is worth dying for and spending eternity in the lake of fire and brimstone for it. Nothing. No amount of pleasure, money, prestige. Absolutely nothing. Who is lord of your life?
Everlasting Life
Don’t foolishly die in your sins and go to Hell. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him (John 3:36). Turn from your sins and turn to the risen Lord. Come to Jesus Christ and be saved. Recognize that you have sinned against our Holy Creator God. Admit that you are a sinner. Cry out for God to save you. Repent of your sins and surrender your life to Jesus. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
Oh, come to Jesus tonight and be saved. Repent and believe the Gospel. Willingly bow your knee to King Jesus. Submit your life to His Lordship. We all serve someone. Serve the right someone. Serve the One, the only one that saves. Surrender your life fully and completely to Jesus Christ our Lord. Turn to Christ Jesus and live. Submit your life to the Lord of lords. Receive life, eternal life that’s only found in Jesus Christ alone.
