I am a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. No matter who they play, I’m always rooting for the Cardinals to win. (I’m also a Kansas City Chief’s football fan, but they don’t give me a whole lot to cheer about, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m a fan anyway). When two teams play against each other, most of us choose one side or the other.
We also make choices when it comes to politics. In America, most people are either a Democrat or Republican (and even if you are a Libertarian or some other political group, you still have chosen a side to support). People tend to be conservative or liberal. So in life, we are constantly choosing a side to belong to or a side to support.
Jesus spoke very plainly in Luke 11:23 these words “He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathers not with me scatters.” Look at that closely. Jesus says that you are either for Him or against Him. You either allow God to work through you to help build the kingdom of God or you are fighting against the kingdom.
These are very powerful and sobering words. Cry out to God for Him to show you if you are truly on the Lord’s side or if you are fighting against Him. If you say that you are on God’s side, then what are you doing to help further God’s kingdom? How is God using you to fight the good fight? Are you really on the right side or have you deceived yourself? Which side are you on?
There is no middle ground here. Jesus never played it safe. There is no compromise. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). He never, ever compromised on the truth. In fact, He encouraged the exact opposite; for us to stand firm and endure to the end (Matt. 10:22).
With Jesus it is always take it or leave it and if you leave it, be prepared to suffer the eternal consequences (Luke 10:10-15). Choose to be a soldier for the kingdom. It’s a very scary thought to think that you are actually fighting against God if you are not for Him (Acts 5:34-35; 38-39). Which side are you on? Are you for Jesus or against Him?
