I collected rock albums for 30 years. I actually quit a couple of years ago because I realized that I would never find the one – the last album that would complete my collection. After collecting 1,600 albums and realizing that 2,000 wouldn’t be enough, I figured I might as well quit.
Enough was never going to be enough. The black hole of getting more and more would never be filled. Have you ever done that? Have you ever had an addiction or a “collecting” habit that got the best of you?
The apostle Paul learned to be content in any circumstance. In Philippians 4:11 he says, “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Personally, I haven’t arrived yet, but I am trying to be content with what I have – instead of wanting more.
There is still one thing that I can’t get enough of and that is Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. The more I experience Jesus, the more I learn about Him, the more I want to experience and learn about Him. I have an insatiable appetite for Jesus and His ways. But this is different. As you grow in your faith and the farther you travel on your spiritual journey, the more you realize you don’t have it all figured out. I don’t have all the answers. God in His infinite wisdom, reveals new things to us all the time through His Word.
I can’t get enough of Jesus and I’m OK with that. As far as my other habits – enough is truly enough! How about you? Is your focus on Jesus Christ or are you frantically trying to fill a spiritual void with material things? Now is the time, today is the day … say enough is enough with worldly possessions. Put your focus and attention on Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. If you have never been born again, please go to the How to Be Saved tab.
