What Day Was Jesus Born On?
Ministry Update May 19 2019
Pastor Joshua, Kelly, Conner and I had a great time witnessing Friday night where there were some interesting conversations. All four of us did open-air preaching. Gospel tracts and New Testaments were handed out. We always have a great time visiting. But the short conversation that ended the night was a guy that was concerned about the actual day of Jesus’ birth. He kept asking us, “What day was Jesus born on?”
What day was Jesus born on? We have no idea and the Bible does not give us the specific date. (So that’s a really good clue that it doesn’t matter. If God wanted us to know and celebrate the exact date, He clearly would have told us). Kelly and I kind of tag-teamed the guy. He kept asking what day we think Jesus was born on and we kept pointing him to the day he’s going to die. We are all going to die and when that day comes, it won’t matter what day Jesus was born on.
No, as soon as you die it will only matter if you die in Christ as a repentant follower of Jesus or if you die in your sins. Jesus offers eternal life and rejecting Christ and dying in your sins leads to everlasting pain and suffering. Hell is real. The guy ended up saying that he’s read the Bible and that he knows it. We explained to him that he must have missed the part where the Bible says we are to repent and put our faith in Jesus (Acts 20:21), which is so much more important than the actual day of Jesus’ birth.
Conversations With A Jewish Guy And A Pro-Abortionist
Before that brief exchange, Pastor Joshua and Kelly both got into conversations while I was open-air preaching. Pastor Joshua was talking to a guy that is Jewish and he didn’t want to talk about the New Testament at all. Pastor Joshua was agreeable to that and shared Old Testament scriptures that pointed to Jesus. But every time he did, the Jewish guy kept changing the subject.
The guy Kelly talked to claimed to be a Christian that was in favor of abortion because he thought stupid people have abortions and that will cull out the people with low IQ’s. I think he even gave the example of aborting babies where the parents had IQ’s of less than 90. Kelly asked him if that really became a thing, what would keep the intelligent elites from raising the bar and killing everyone that had an IQ of 100 or less. Then those with higher IQ’s might decide everyone under 110 had to go.
Get To Heaven By Being Good?
Later on, Pastor Joshua spoke to a young man that was walking by with a young lady. Pastor Joshua was handing out tracts, so he started a conversation with the young man. Turns out the young man believes that you just have to live a good life, be good to people and that’s all it takes to go to Heaven. Pastor Joshua started asking him about sins, taking him through some of the 10 Commandments. That’s when they guy got mad and he and the young woman walked away.
But overall several people took Gospel tracts and over 20 New Testaments were handed out. I especially liked when a mother allowed her young son to take a New Testament and then she also took one too. Kelly tried to hand a tract to two young ladies that had earlier taken New Testaments. They didn’t take a tract, but, mentioned that they had received New Testaments. Kelly said something about reading the Bible and one of the girls turned around and said we just got these. May God bless the messages, tracts, New Testaments and conversations.
One Hundred New Testaments During Finals Week
Wednesday was near the end of finals at Missouri State University, so the foot traffic pattern was much different than normal. I handed out New Testaments near the student union. Many students (along with some of their parents) were parking their cars nearby and packing up to leave for the summer. But praise God, there were still 100 students that took New Testaments.
One girl actually walked up and asked for one. I was handing out softback New Testaments from my church. When I handed it to her, she immediately dropped it saying that it was hot. But then she bent down and picked it up. The softback New Testament wasn’t hot, so I’m not sure what that was all about. Another time when it was slow, I walked over and handed one to a Muslim girl. Thankfully she took it. I hope and pray that she and the other 99 students will read the New Testaments. May God convict and convert many lost souls for His honor and glory.
