What Are Christians To Do?
What are Christians to do at a time like this? It all seems so hopeless. Our country is running amuck. Those in power call evil good and good evil. Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20). Oh the sky is falling! What are Christians to do? What are we to do during these dark times?
Jesus tells us clearly what to do. We are to be a shining light in the darkness. Matthew 5:10-16 says: Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Light Of The World
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
What are Christians to do? We are to obey Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. First of all, we are blessed when we are persecuted for righteousness’ sake and we are reviled for the precious name of Jesus. We are to rejoice for being worthy to suffer for our Lord. Think of how much He suffered for you when He suffered, bled and died on the cross for our sins. What’s a little suffering now on this earth? Yes, it will be get worse, but Jesus said rejoice, for great is your reward in Heaven.
Oh, What Are Christians To Do?
Oh, what are Christians to do? We are to be salt and light in this dark world. We are to be Christ-like. Yes, brothers and sisters in Christ, we are to be a voice for the voiceless. Abortion is the great evil of our generation. We need to tell people that abortion is an abomination to God. The Lord hates the hands that shed innocent blood. This is just one example of being Christ-like.
Christians are to help others when we can. It is always Christ-like to help those in need. When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
Blessed Of My Father
Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was hungry, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
For I was hungry, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, In as much as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal (Matthew 25:31-46). Oh, do you see dear Christian that we are to be Christ-like. We are to help those in need.
Best Way To Be Christ-like
Oh, but the very best way to be Christ-like is to share the glorious Gospel with this lost and dying world. What does the dark world need? People need Jesus. It doesn’t matter what your political bent is if you are Christ-like. If you are truly a follower of Christ, you will be against abortion and everything else that is contrary to God and His word. Again this is great, but we are mainly to share the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). After Jesus chose His 12 disciples, He gave them power to heal the sick and cast out demons. But He also told to preach the Gospel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand (Mark 10:7). Jesus said as you go, preach! Preaching was the main mission of the disciples.
Jesus also preached the Gospel. Yes, He performed miracles and the miracles showed that He was the Son of God, but He mainly shared truth. He preached as He went. And at even (evening), when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
And all the city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many that were sick of diverse diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him. And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee. And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth (Mark 1:32-38).
Jesus Came To Preach!
Yes, Jesus healed the sick and cast out demons, but He said, “Let’s go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.” Jesus shared the Gospel, the Good News as He went from town to town. This is the best way for Christians to let their light shine. We have eternal life! Why would you keep that to yourself? You don’t loose anything by sharing it. In fact, there’s a chance you may gain a brother or sister in Christ, when you share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Salvation is of the Lord and God saves through the power of the Holy Spirit. People need to hear that they’ve sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. We have all rebelled against God and there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. We are sinful, but God is Holy, righteous and just. Because God is Holy, He must and he does punish sinners.
Those who die in their sins, who die outside of Christ Jesus suffer God’s righteous anger over sin for all eternity. Once a person dies and goes to Hell, there are no second chances. You must receive salvation in this life. Salvation is the free gift from God, but you must receive it. Jesus suffered, bled and died on the cruel cross in place of guilty sinners who repent and put their trust in Him.
Good Works Won’t Save You
Don’t count on your good works. The Bible says our very best is as filthy rags to God. You cannot work your way to Heaven. You can’t earn salvation. No, Jesus paid the sin debt that He did not owe. The Lord rose from the grave three days after dying on the cross. Jesus defeated sin, death, Hell and Satan. Salvation is for all who repent of their sins and surrender their lives to Jesus.
Oh, if Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, recognize that you have sinned against God. Admit that you are a sinner; that you are a rebel. Cry out for God to have mercy upon you. Repent and put your faith in Jesus. Trust in His finished work on the cross to save you. Oh, repent and believe the Gospel.
If you are already a follower of Christ, what are we to do? We are to continue following Jesus! Our Lord said that we should let our light shine. Again, help those in need when you can. But mainly, share the glorious Gospel. We have the words of everlasting life. Tell others how to be saved. Tell them what wonderful things the Lord has done for you. How He has changed your life since you repented and put your faith in Jesus.
It’s one of the last things Jesus said to His disciples after He rose from the grave and before He ascended into Heaven. He said, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” Mark 16:15-15. What are Christians to do? We are to obey Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
