We’re Lesbians
Ministry Update December 11, 2016
Friday night Diana, Elise and I witnessed downtown. I was bringing a message and like countless times in the past, God sent a mocker by at the exact moment to emphasize a point. I was preaching about why we call people to repent and I was quoting where Jesus was telling the religious leaders that they didn’t listen to John the Baptist, but the tax collectors and harlots did. I was making the point that these sinners repented and didn’t continue in their wicked ways; that Jesus never condoned sins and two lesbians walk up at that exact moment saying “we’re lesbians.” So I reminded them again that Jesus never condoned sin; not homosexuality and not lesbianism.
Even though it was a cold night, we had our fair share of mockers. Some guys in a Suburban drove by and yelled f you while I was bringing the message. One car stopped and revved his engine trying to drown me out. Later a woman walking in a group yelled something mockingly as they walked by. But the Gospel went forth anyway. Toward the end of the message a guy walked by and said Amen. We also handed out a few tracts.
Do You Want Some Hot Chocolate?
On Wednesday I witnessed at MSU. It wasn’t as cold as Friday night, but it was cold. It even spit a little snow during the lunch hour. The students were mostly apathetic. A couple of students recorded a snippet of the message as they walked by, but they appeared to be mocking. Most students just walked by without paying much attention to the message. But one student walked up to me and asked me if I wanted some hot chocolate. I thanked him for the thought, but he asked me the question when I was near the end of the message, so I declined. Just his asking if I wanted some was a great encouragement on a day when it appeared no one was listening.
Merry Christmas!
Handing out tracts at the Christmas parade on Saturday was a little strange. Laura and Valerie handed out tracts together (and Valerie was just saved earlier that morning and she was already out handing out tracts!) and we ran into each other while handing out tracts. Brian also handed out tracts, but we missed each other. So we really didn’t work together as a group, but many tracts were handed out anyway.
Most people said Merry Christmas or thank you when I handed them a million dollar bill tract. My favorite was when I handed one to a boy about 9 or 10 years old and he said “is this money?” then I replied “it’s better than money. It tells you about Jesus on the back.” He shook his head up and down and said “Oh yeah.” That was priceless.
(These updates are provided to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus with others. You never know how God will use a simple Gospel presentation, your testimony or simply handing a Gospel tract to someone.)
