We Worship The Same God
Ministry Update February 18, 2018
Kelly and I witnessed downtown Friday night and there seemed to be more people walking around than usual. While I was bringing a message, two Muslims walked up to Kelly. One was recording my message as they talked. They told Kelly that we worship the same God. Kelly politely told them that we do not worship the same God. He talked about Jesus saying that He is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). They mostly talked in Arabic so obviously Kelly didn’t know what they were saying.
Then a guy stopped his car in the street in front of us to yell out his window that was rolled down. I couldn’t tell what he was saying, so I continued pleading with people to repent and trust Jesus. A little later, the young man that I met last week – Mohammed Ali waved as he was across the street heading to his apartment. I said Hi to him and told him to have a good night.
God’s Truth Offends Those Living Contrary To God
Then Kelly preached after me. He brought up his conversation with the two Muslims earlier. Kelly also told about a false convert that he used to attend church with. That young man was offended by our open-air preaching in the past. In fact, the young man did what a lot of people do nowadays, he unfriended Kelly on Facebook. Later on Kelly found out that the young man started going to a very liberal local church and it turned out that he was living a homosexual lifestyle. That explains why he was so offended by the open-air preaching in the past (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
We really don’t try to be offensive, but the message, God’s truth offends those who are living contrary to God. Then a group of young men walked by and one yelled out God’s not real so go f yourself. Again, Kelly wasn’t being offensive. He was literally reading part of Romans 1. It truly is God’s word, His truth that offends some people. It doesn’t leave you neutral. But oh, how Satan has so many blinded and people tell us open-air preaching isn’t needed or isn’t effective. It is very biblical and much needed in our day and time.
Student In The Red Dress
It was very overcast on Wednesday when I witnessed at Missouri State University. Quinn the skateboarding atheist didn’t show up this time, even though he told me last week that he would. My favorite atheist Emily did walk by and wave again. I waved back and said hi to her. I had a couple of mockers, but mostly apathy. Most students just walked by as if I wasn’t even there. But then a student in a red dress walked up to me. The student was wearing jeans underneath the dress and had cat ears and was wearing gloves. I really thought it was a woman. But when I stopped preaching for a moment, he told me that he just wanted to let me know that it was supposed to rain and he didn’t want my Bible to get wet.
I thanked him and then he sashayed away. I don’t know if he expected me to comment on him or how he was dressed. It was just a strange encounter, but I went back to sharing the Gospel. Because no matter how confused or sinful or anti-God someone is, everyone needs the Good News. Not all will be saved, but some people will repent and trust Jesus. Those of us who are saved are just called to share the Gospel with this lost and dying world. Salvation is of the Lord (Psalm 62:1).
