I drove by a church a while back and they had a sign out by the road that said, “We don’t do guilt.” Isn’t that nice? That sounds great. I mean, even when I am guilty of doing something wrong, I don’t like to feel guilty. Who does? So we don’t do guilt sounds really good.
But is it biblical? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we are supposed to stay stuck in guilt and wallow there forever. Guilt is a God given emotion and He gave us that emotion for a reason. Our conscience let’s us know when we’ve done soemthing wrong. Guilt is supposed to help us see that we’ve done wrong and then we are to change our ways. We are to turn back to God. We all make mistakes and God will forgive us if we come to Him with a humble and contrite heart and sincerely ask Him to forgive us. Then we are to turn away from our sins.
Acts 17:31 says “Because He has appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that man (Jesus) whom He has ordained…” Hebrews 9:27 states “it is appointed to men once to die, but after this the judgment.” The Bible clearly states that there is going to be a Judgment Day. Have you ever thought about that? What does a judge do? He decides whether someone is innocent or guilty. God is the ultimate judge. He is Holy, righteous and perfect. God is truth and He cannot go against His nature.
If you are a true believer and you put your full trust in Jesus Christ, then you don’t need to feel guilty. Jesus paid your fine for you, He kept the perfect standard of never sinning. (We are to turn away from habitual sins. In John 14:15 Jesus said if you love me, you will keep my commandments). If you are a true believer, then God will judge you through the blood of Jesus Christ and you will be found innocent on Judgment Day. Halleluah! Praise God for your salvation!
But if you are an unbeliever, you stand condemned already (John 3:18). You should feel guilty and you will be found guilty on Judgment Day. Eternity in Hell is the punishment for your sins. If you feel guilty or your conscience is bothering you right now, then there is good news! Jesus suffered and died on the cross for guilty sinners. He defeated sin and death. Romans 6:23 says “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. God will give you eternal life if you repent by turning away from your sins and turn toward God. You also need to put your faith in Jesus Christ, you need to truly believe in Him. You need to surrender your life fully to Christ. Please confess your sins to God and humbly submit yourself to our Lord Jesus. Please don’t put this off. Choose life… eternal life. The Bible says today is the day of salvation.
