We Are Going To Die
Ministry Update November 18, 2018
Pastor Joshua and I witnessed downtown Friday night. Pastor Joshua quoted Hebrews 9:27 and was just saying “we are going to die” when two cars nearly collided right in front of us. They came really close to having a bad wreck while around five people were walking behind one of the cars. Pastor Joshua then said, “You may die in a car wreck.” It was so scary that when the people crossed the street, one guy bent over with his hands on his knees and said that he was scared to death. It was a scary moment, but oh what a powerful example of how my life and your life can end at any moment. It really drove home the point that life is short and people need to get right with God. Unbelievers need to repent and trust Jesus before it’s too late.
It seemed like we had several strange things happen while Pastor Joshua brought a wonderful message on the Gospel. He gave a very clear presentation of the Gospel. While he was preaching, a group walked by me. The first guy took a tract, but the rest all refused one. The last guy walked by me and said, “Do you want marijuana? Do you want blow?” I assume he was trying to be funny. But how unfunny his comments will be on Judgment Day if he dies in his sins and goes to Hell?
Man Disagrees With Part Of The Message
Another guy took a tract from me, saw what it was as he walked away, but turned around toward Pastor Joshua and mockingly said, “Hallelujah.” Yet another guy and a woman listened to part of Pastor Joshua’s message and yelled encouraging words. Yet, when he mentioned that Jesus came for sinners and not the righteous and how the sick need a doctor, not those that are well, the guy came over and told me that he didn’t agree with that part of the message.
He proceeded to tell me how a godly woman he knows has cancer and probably won’t live three months. Somehow he used her ailment to disagree with what Pastor Joshua was saying. I politely told the guy that Pastor Joshua was actually retelling Jesus’ own words, but the guy shook his head as walked off and said he disagreed with that part.
How Do You Pick And Choose?
It’s really sad how many people we run into that believe parts of the Bible and not all of it. It may be possible, but I don’t know how you can really be saved and pick and choose what you believe. If you are truly saved, how do you decide which parts are true and which are false? Aren’t you putting yourself above God when you do this? Again, I don’t know how you can truly be a follower of Jesus and deny parts of Scripture. Jesus always affirmed the Scriptures. All Scripture is inspired by God, it is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16). So, aren’t you calling God a liar when you pick and choose what you believe?
One car pulled up to the stop sign and the guy had a microphone and amplifier hooked up to his car. Before he pulled away, he said, “Amen” while Pastor Joshua was preaching, but then he kept mouthing off, so I don’t think he was sincere at all. I believe he was mocking the preacher.
Before these events, I started us off with a message about who people thank during Thanksgiving. Specifically, atheists, who they are thankful to? A young man walked in front of me and suggested I shut the f up. I told him I seriously wanted to know who he’s going to thank next week at Thanksgiving and he just flipped me off and kept walking. But a guy talked to Pastor Joshua for a long time while I was bringing the message and he appreciated that we were out witnessing and that the Gospel was being preached.
Laughing
At MSU on Wednesday, it was mostly apathetic students. I was mainly praising God during the message, but one student walked right in front of me, laughing as he walked by. Another guy walked by with some friends and it looked like he was offering me some of his Cheetos, but again, I think he was really just mocking. Overall it was a quiet lunch hour, but I had a great time lifting up the precious name of Jesus. He is worthy to be praised. I praise Him now and I’m looking forward to praising the Lord for all eternity.
(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share the Gospel with this lost and dying world. As Leonard Ravenhill used to ask, “Do we really care that the world is going to Hell?”)
