Walking Backwards
Ministry Update February 24, 2019
I ended the time witnessing at Missouri State University on Wednesday by walking backwards. But praise God, 20 students graciously received New Testaments before I brought a message. One gentleman that said he didn’t need a New Testament was a Navy veteran. I thanked him for his service and he said it was his pleasure. Then he said that he mainly just read reports. He could tell that I was surprised at his answer.
So he continued by saying, “You know the TV show NCIS?” I replied, “Yes, I know it” and he said, “Well, what they do on a one hour show really takes about six months to do.” I laughed along with him as he was laughing telling me about it, but I wish I would have said, someone had to read those reports when he downplayed his service in active duty. The students were quiet again this week as I pleaded with them to turn from their sins and trust Jesus. I pointed out that God still saves lost souls. Toward the end of the message, the silent mocker walked in front of me this time as he passed by.
Afterwards, I handed out a few tracts. I was down to one tract in my hand when I noticed a large group approaching me. So I reached in my witnessing bag and grabbed a handful of tracts. As I held out the first tract, the first guy in the group took one. As my friends that hand out tracts know, the first person is crucial. When they don’t take a tract, sometimes the whole group refuses. But since the first guy took one, almost all of the rest took tracts. I couldn’t hand them out fast enough so I had to walk backwards to keep handing the tracts out. I wasn’t moon walking, but it was a great way to end my time witnessing at MSU. May God bless the New Testaments, the message the students heard as well as the tracts that were handed out.
Get Out Of Here
All day Friday the weather forecasts were calling for only a 10% chance of rain at 7 pm. Then right when I left home to go witnessing downtown, the percentage jumped up to 40% at 7:30 pm. I was handing out tracts and right on cue, it started raining at 7:30 pm. Praise God that 30 people took New Testaments, nearly half of them were given out while it was raining. A couple of young people seemed genuinely happy to receive them. But one guy told me to get out of here.
A couple walked toward me and the woman politely said no thank you when I offered her a New Testament. So I offered it to the man that was with her and that’s when he told me to get out of here. So, I politely told him no thank you. But overall it was an enjoyable evening witnessing, even though it rained. I do street ministry because I truly believe God’s word and when God says that His word does not return void, I believe that. May the people that received New Testaments read them and may the Lord convict them of their sins and reveal His Holiness to them. May God grant them repentance and faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.
