Too Much
Ministry Update March 7, 2020
Conner talked to one of the sign guys on the square before we both did open-air preaching. The sign guys believe that God does most of the work in salvation, but then we have to our part. They also believe in sinless perfectionism and they believe that you have to be good enough after salvation before you die, to go to Heaven. Typically, you can’t get anywhere with these guys, but Conner said that he had good conversation with one of them and the guy was at least thinking about what he said. While that was going on at the square, I was at our usual spot handing out New Testaments and Gospel tracts. My favorite encounter was with a guy who replied, “Too much.”
Gentleman Trying To Save Me Money
A man and his son came toward me and I offered him a New Testament. The gentleman took it and thanked me. Then when I tried to hand one to his son, he said, “Too much. Too much.” I told him it was ok and I kept trying to hand the New Testament to the boy. Then the guy replied, “We can share.” So I assured him that it really was ok for the boy to have his own. I was still handing it to his son and he reached out and snatched it. The guy then told me thanks and they continued walking. I must admit that in our culture in America where everyone typically wants more of everything (or too much), I appreciated this guy who sounded like he might be from Eastern Europe and his frugalness and trying to save me money. But if someone wants a Bible or New Testament, I want them to have their own.
Lesbians Refuse New Testaments
A few people said they were Christians and they already had Bibles. A couple of people thanked me for handing out New Testaments. A lesbian couple walked by holding hands and they both refused New Testaments. You could almost see that they were thinking; can’t you see we are holding hands? Of course I saw that, but that doesn’t change the fact that I really want everyone to take a New Testament or Gospel tract. I can’t control whether they accept or refuse, but the offer should still made regardless.
Conner and I both brought open-air messages. We didn’t have any verbal mockers, but several drivers revved their engines to drown out the preaching. A different lesbian couple (or apparently so, it may have been a cultural thing) briefly stopped across the street while Conner was preaching. There was one guy in the parking lot listening to part of Conner’s message and a different guy stood on the corner and listened to part of my message. Conner hadn’t been out in a while, so we had a great time talking after we finished witnessing. We also talked about the difficulty of redeeming the time when we work, spend time the family and spend time with the Lord in our daily lives.
Only One Mocker
I only had one mocker at MSU on Wednesday. I couldn’t hear what he said, so I asked him to repeat it. Instead, he just turned around and smiled and kept walking. The message was against abortion, so I was surprised that I didn’t have more mockers. I just kept pointing out how evil abortion is and how it is an abomination to God. Many students took Gospel tracts before and after the message.
