This Last Week Was About Bibles
Ministry Update November 8, 2020
Yes, I brought messages at Missouri State University on Wednesday as well as downtown Friday night. At MSU, I chuckled when two girls walked in front of me and one looked over and said, “Yak, yak, yak” and then went back to talking to her friend. I couldn’t understand another mocker at the university. Downtown, a young man stopped and recorded while I was reading John Chapter 3. He walked by and said “God bless.” Another young man stood across the street and listened to part of the message. But the real story was Bibles. Yes, this last week was about Bibles. I thank God for the students that took New Testaments on Wednesday and I thank God for the people who took them downtown.
We’re Not Christians
I handed out all that I brought a Missouri State University. Students were very polite that day, whether they received or rejected the offer of New Testaments. Several students gladly received them. Then downtown Friday night, a couple walked toward me and I offered them New Testaments. I think they may have been from India, but I’m not sure. He looked down and said, “We’re not Christians.” Before I could say anything, the young woman said, “That’s ok.” So I immediately joined in and agreed that it was ok, they could take them anyway and they both took one! Several people took New Testaments as I walked around downtown. I love how God orchestrated my walking by a restaurant as the worker was reaching for the door to shut it. I just stuck my arm out and offered the New Testament. He seemed to genuinely appreciate the offer and he took it. Two seconds earlier or later and I would have missed him.
Even though this last week was about Bible, I did hand out tracts at the university and downtown after I ran out of Gideon New Testaments. At MSU, I offered a tract to an older Asian lady who looked like she was studying. She wanted to know what it was, so I told her it was a Gospel tract that tells about Jesus. She hesitantly took it. So then I asked, “Do you have a Bible?” She replied that she didn’t. But when I offered her one (I had run out of Gideon NT’s, but I still had a couple of paperback ones in my witnessing bag), she flat out rejected the offer. I still wanted her to read the tract, so I didn’t press her and just thanked her and walked away.
(These updates are provided to encourage Christians to share the Gospel with others. You can hand out Gospel tracts or New Testaments. You can purchase New Testaments from the Gideons International – they just don’t have the Gideon symbol on them or you can buy one dollar Bibles at Dollar Tree or other dollar stores.)
