The Problem With Christians
Ministry Update August 2, 2020
Friday night I brought a message entitled Do You Really Want God To Judge You? I mentioned how the Bible verse thrown out at open-air preachers more than any other verse is Matthew 7:1 – judge not. As I finished up the message, a trans woman (also known as a man dressed like a woman) approached me and said, “Judge not”. I replied you should have heard the message, because that’s what it was about. Then he continued “The problem with Christians is you don’t like homosexuals or trans.” I said, “It’s not a matter of what we like or don’t like, Jesus said that from the beginning God made them male and female and it’s supposed to be one man and one woman married for life” (Mark 10:6-9).
It’s not about what a Christian “thinks” or “feels”. No, what matters is what God says through His word. So I directed him to 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and I pointed out that homosexuals tend to think that Christians pick on homosexuals because these verses directly point out that homosexuality is wrong, but these verses include many other sexual sins. In fact, sex is a powerful enticement to people, so the Apostle Paul lists several sexual sins among other commons sins in these verses and none of these unrepentant sinners will inherit the kingdom of God. Then he told me that he believes in Wicca. He believes that you should respect everyone, he believes in magic and I can’t remember his third tenet, but he proudly showed me his pentagram pendant.
Will God Give You A Free Pass?
I asked him if he gets his beliefs from the Bible (which I knew he didn’t) and he said no, they were his own. Then I asked him what’s going to happen when he stands before God on Judgment Day and what if God judges him by the 10 Commandments. What will you say? Do you think if you say “Well God, I didn’t believe in the 10 Commandments, I had my own beliefs in Wicca that God is going to look at you and say “Well, you did your own thing, that’s ok.” Is God going to give you a free pass? I kid you not, he even laughed at this prospect because it is so absurd. He knows that God is not going to give him a free pass. Sadly, the young man said, “If that happens, it will be my cross to bear.” I told him “I don’t want you to bear that cross. I don’t want you to die in your sins and go to Hell”. Then he said “I believe in Wicca”, showed me his pentagram again, smiled and walked away.
It was a cool night with a cool breeze and even though it rained off and on all day, it only misted while I was downtown. A couple of people stopped to listen to part of the message and several people took tracts before and after open-air preaching. Right off the bat I was handing out tracts and one guy took one and his friend didn’t. Then a car drove on the street directly behind me and the passenger yelled something out the window. I thought “Great, I haven’t even started preaching yet, and the mockers are already out.” But to my surprise, the guy that took the tract, turned around and waved at the guy yelling. Evidently he had just called him by his nickname.
