Even though I’m getting older, I can still remember some things. Mainly useless trivia or unimportant things. But some important things that I should remember are just gone. Sometimes I just can’t retrieve the information. This gets very frustrating at times. On the other hand, sometimes I dwell on past mistakes too much. Sometimes I carry around burdens that I should have let go of a long time ago.
If you are Christian, if you have been saved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ, then you have been forgiven by God. God no longer sees you through your own “goodness”. God sees you through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:21 states, “For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Furthermore, Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” If you have been born again and you are still unsure of God’s forgiveness of your sins, please look closely at Isaiah 43:25, “I, even I, am he that blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and will not remember your sins.”
Not only does God forgive Christians for their sins, He also tells us that we are not to dwell on the past: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:18-19a NIV).
If you are saved, rejoice in your salvation and forget the past. Do as Jesus told to do: Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. Then, forget the past. The past is the past. Go with the peace of Jesus and help further God’s kingdom.
