The Love Student
Ministry Update February 23, 2020
I had one mocker that I couldn’t understand and then the love student mocked me on Wednesday at Missouri State University. The love student just chants “Love, love, love” and then repeats it again and again as long as he’s within earshot of me. This time when he walked by, I was reading 1 Peter 1:21-23: Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever.
My message was about joy in the Lord and verse 22 specifically talks about unfeigned love of the brethren and how we are to love fellow believers. But obviously the love student isn’t talking about the love of fellow believers. No, he’s telling other students to ignore what I’m saying because it’s all love, man. Well, God is love, but He’s also a God of wrath. God is a jealous God. The great Creator God is just and righteous, so He does punish sin. He punishes unrepentant sinners for all eternity who die in their sins. So it won’t be all love, love, love on Judgment Day. In fact, Judgment Day doesn’t sound very loving does it? Actually, it sounds judgmental, which God has every right to be.
Pleaded With Students
I pleaded with the love student and others to repent and trust Jesus. The Lord is the only Savior of mankind and there is no other. If you want to see love, love, love, look to the cross. Look to the amazing sacrifice of Jesus Himself. He suffered, bled and died and rose from the grave to save His people from their sins. I pleaded with the students to repent and believe the Gospel.
There were a couple of Jehovah Witnesses in front of the library where I was open-air preaching. They both refused tracts, so I worked into the message about not falling for false religions. False religions typically involve people trying to work or earn their way to Heaven, which is impossible. Salvation is a free gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9) for those who repent and put their faith in Jesus. There were a couple of students handing out fliers for a Bernie Sanders rally, so I “traded” literature with them. Both of the guys took tracts. I had shared the Gospel with the one student in the past. Many students took tracts. There also were five people planting trees on one street and thankfully, all of them took tracts.
(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord with others)
