The Jesus Guy
Ministry Update August 16, 2020
It was great witnessing Friday night. Yes, it felt like a pre-Covid witnessing time. Saying this has nothing to do with masks. About half the people wore them and about half didn’t. No, it seemed more like a pre-Covid night just from the energy and atmosphere. There was one mocker while I handed out tracts, two drive by mockers and one encourager. The night ended with a college age guy calling me the Jesus guy. It was a great night of open-air preaching and handing out tracts.
While handing out tracts to start the night, a group of about four people came toward me. I made eye contact with the first one and said, “Did you get one of these?” She said, “What is it?” and before I could answer, she said “Oh, I’m allergic.” All of her friends laughed. All I thought was how her funny line isn’t going to be funny on Judgment Day. Then I also wondered if any of her friend are professing Christians because Jesus said if you deny Me before men, I will deny you before my Father in Heaven (Matthew 10:33).
Own Up To It
Several people took tracts and then I brought a message after that called “Man up” and the message wasn’t meant to be sexist or politically incorrect, it’s just an expression that we have used around my house for many years. To man up just means to own up to it when you do something wrong. I was explaining this and then I asked do you own up to it when you do something wrong or do you try to hide it or make excuses? About that time three college age girls walked by and one said “You own up to it” I said that’s the right answer and pointed out the young lady is right; we are to own up to our mistakes. But American society doesn’t say this. Society makes excuses and blames everyone instead of individuals. After that, I worked into the good person test and gave it in general, not to anyone specific.
Go Home
There were several people on the rooftop of the building across the street listening to the message. I also had two drive by mockers. I just ignored them both. The second car of mockers were two women in the front seat and they both yelled as they drove by. The funny thing is a woman walking close by turned around and yelled to the women “Go home!” The woman that yelled had just recorded part of the message and said “Thank you” as she walked away. She was a real encourager and hopefully the message encouraged her too.
I walked around downtown handing out tracts after the message. I tried to hand them to a couple and they both said “We are from out of town.” I said, “That’s ok, they are Gospel tracts” and both of them took one. A different couple walked by later on and the guy stopped and said “What is it?” I replied “A Gospel tract.” Then he said ‘All right.” Because of his response, I suggested that he read it and pass it on to someone else and he said that he would.
Hey, You’re The Jesus Guy
A group of five or six college age guys walked by me and a big guy said “Hey, you’re the Jesus guy.” I nodded my head and about the same time one of the guys took a tract and said something about wondering if it was about marijuana. The big guy said “No, that’s the Jesus guy. It’s not about marijuana.” That wasn’t the first time someone thought a tract was about marijuana and probably won’t be the last. I don’t care why they take a tract as long as they take one. As I continued walking, I thought about how I like being known as the Jesus guy. I hope and pray that I will be known as the Jesus guy until the day I die. That would be perfectly fine with me. May God bless the message and the tracts and that were handed out and may He save lost souls for His honor and glory.
(These updates are provided to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus with others. You may never stand on a street corner and open-air preach, but you can hand out a Gospel tract and say, “Did you get one of these?”)
