Brady Open-Air Preaching
My wife and I were on vacation this week, but on Saturday July 13, 2019, I had the privilege of witnessing with Brady, his wife Trish, Shane, Gerald, his wife and son and a young lady that was with their group. It rained Friday all afternoon and right up to the time I started witnessing downtown. Even though it was Art Walk, there weren’t many people downtown. I guess the rain kept most people away. I had one encourager. A guy driving by with his window down gave a thumbs up while I was open-air preaching. Other than that, it was quiet except for the police interaction. [Read more…]
Conner Talking To A Group Of Atheists
Friday night witnessing was a little strange this week. It was Artwalk and there was a band on the square and the street around the square was blocked off to traffic. Also, just North of our normal witnessing spot, Jefferson was blocked off to traffic and there was another band playing there. They were so loud, that Conner and I crossed the street and I brought a short message with the amp at about half volume. One guy stopped and shook my hand and thanked me for sharing the Gospel. But after I finished, Conner said that he wanted to go to the square and talk to the Atheists set up there. We did talk to them, but turns out Atheists demand the impossible. [Read more…]
The polite mocker at Missouri State University that typically just smiles as he walks by, stopped and said, “Can I ask you a question?” I said sure. Then he said, “Why are you doing this if every knee will bow?” Then he turned and walked away. Again, he generally just smiles or laughs as he walks by me. But every now and then he asks questions, but he really isn’t interested in the answers. He just wants to mockingly ask a question and walk on, continuing to mock God. [Read more…]
Most Of The Laborers At The Christmas Parade Outreach
There were forty laborers from Crossway Baptist Church handing out tracts at the Springfield Christmas parade on Saturday. Originally the weather forecasters were predicting one to three inches of snow. But praise God, that didn’t happen and we handed out thousands of Gospel tracts. Greg led the outreach and I think in the past we may have had around 15 or 16 people witnessing at one St. Patrick’s Day Parade, but praise God, this time there were forty of us! [Read more…]
Since classes started at Missouri State University this last week, I witnessed there during the lunch hour on Wednesday. Toward the end of the message a student came over to talk to me. He had listened to a good portion of the open-air preaching. He walked up and said, “I like what you do here, but you don’t want to scare off the new students. You need to sugarcoat it.” I didn’t address his concern, we just talked a little bit. Then all of he sudden he laughed and said, “I guess you really can’t sugarcoat it, can you?” Then I told him that I was going to ask him where Jesus sugarcoated it and that I’d be happy to do the same. The best part was he figured out that you really can’t sugarcoat the Gospel and he came to this conclusion without me even addressing it. [Read more…]
Wednesday at Planned Parenthood was pretty quiet. One young man went inside and at another time a young woman went in, but that was about it except for the red car that was there for over 30 minutes with a bunch of kids inside. When my wife and I first got there, they had all the windows down. When I started open-air preaching, the driver rolled the windows up and cranked up the stereo as loud as it would go. It is a real privilege and honor to lift up the name of Jesus in the open-air with Kelly, Conner and Pastor Joshua and it’s been great having Rich join us witnessing while he’s visiting from China. Every now and then we get accused of being too harsh and preaching too hard. But Friday night I believe we had Spirit-filled, hot preaching. [Read more…]
Dave, Conner And Tracy
Rich and I were the first ones to the witnessing spot Friday night and we talked to a couple of guys. The one young man was from Bolivar and I think his friend lives in Springfield. We gave them tracts and they both said they are Christians. The guy from Springfield wanted to know how effective open-air preaching is so we talked about obedience to God and the results are up to Him. Then a lady named Tracy said that she was looking for Allen. I told her that he’s probably on the square witnessing. She couldn’t find him, so she came back and witnessed with us until Allen found her later on. This was just the beginning of the night, but we had conversations before during and after open-air preaching. [Read more…]
It was great having Kelly and his son Steven join me witnessing downtown Friday night. We basically went from having mockers to someone stopping to give us hot chocolate. I got downtown first, so I handed out tracts until Kelly and Steven got there. Since I had some miscellaneous tracts, I just handed them out. I mostly had the 101 World’s Funniest One Liners and most people took them when I told them I had some jokes for them. [Read more…]
