Night Full Of Encouragement

Night Full of Encouragement

Ministry Update July 25, 2021

Friday night witnessing downtown was a very encouraging night. Pastor Mike came out with us for the first time, so he was nervous. Keven and I hadn’t been out for about six months. We didn’t have God’s favor or unction during that time, so we didn’t go witnessing. (Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain Psalm 127:1). So even though it was Pastor Mike’s first time street witnessing and Keven and I hadn’t been out for a really long time, it turned out to be a night full of encouragement. [Read more…]

Homeless Guy Asked For A Bible

Homeless Guy Asked For A Bible

Ministry Update November 1, 2020

The weather was great Friday night. Conner and I both brought messages and Keven joined us later to help hand out Gospel tracts. I don’t remember having any mockers. Conner had a couple of them. It was great having Keven join us. He handed out tracts caddie-corner from Conner and I. While Conner was open-air preaching, a homeless guy came up to me and asked for a Bible. I gladly handed him one. Conner, Keven and I had a great time visiting when we weren’t handing out tracts.

One Bicycle Mocker On A Rainy Day

It wasn’t raining when I drove to Missouri State University on Wednesday and didn’t start raining until I started open-air preaching. The wind was cold and students didn’t want to stop and talk. So I just brought a message that day. About half-way through a student rode by on is bicycle and mouthed off as he went by. I was pleading with students to turn from their sins and turn to Christ. So I just continued pleading with students and said, “Don’t continue mocking God whether you do so verbally out loud like the guy on the bicycle just did or if you are mocking God with your life – by your words and your actions.” Also pleaded with students to not reject such a great salvation. The salvation that is found in Jesus Christ alone.

(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus with others. The results are up to God. Salvation is of the Lord. He calls us to share the Gospel with others. Jesus told us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature – Mark 16:15. Yes, all believers are to share the Gospel. Christian are you being obedient to Christ? Don’t know what to say or do? Buy some Gospel tracts. I recommend Living Waters and Chapel Library. Just walk up to someone offer a tract and say, “Did you get one of these?” By not asking a yes or no question, you have a better chance of someone actually taking one. But whether they accept or reject, salvation is of the Lord. Keep offering tracts, no matter how many rejections you receive. May Jesus Christ our Lord be glorified above all else.)

Girl Said I’m A Satanist

Girl On The Left Says She Is A Satanist

Girl Said I’m A Satanist

Ministry Update October 25, 2020

The wind was really cold Friday night when Kelly, Conner and I witnessed downtown. We didn’t have any mockers while we were open-air preaching. I got there first and handed out Gospel tracts. Most people rejected them, but a few took one. Kelly and Conner both handed out more tracts than I did. Kelly in particular seemed to get some takers. But he had rejections as well. One couple walked by and Kelly tried to hand the guy a tract, but he said he didn’t want to take his hands out of his pockets (because of the cold). Then three people rejected his offer; one girl said, “I’m a Satanist.” While were discussing it, Conner said we too were Satanist before we were saved. Even though we normally don’t think of it this way, Conner is right. When you aren’t following Jesus, you are following Satan, whether you know it or not.

Less Students Than Normal

Rejected

I took a different path walking to the witnessing spot at Missouri State University on Wednesday. Hoping new students would take Gospel tracts. But to my surprise, the first 10 students rejected tracts before the first one took a tract. Then about 10 more rejected them afterwards. After I brought a message, more students took tracts. But as I thought about being rejected by so many students, the Bible verse in Isaiah 53:3 came to mind – how Jesus was despised and rejected by men. Not only was Jesus rejected, He was brutally beaten too. So being rejected or mocked for the name of Christ, really isn’t a big deal. I was surprised that there were even less students walking around that the week before. Last week seemed like only about a one-third of the normal students and this week was more like one-fourth. But the truth goes forth whether there are many or just a few that hear. May God be glorified either way.

Cowardice To Mouth Off Something And Walk Off

Cowardice To Mouth Off Something And Walk Off

Ministry Update July 12, 2020

I’d say we typically have more mockers than not while open-air preaching and I’ve mentioned mockers many times when giving updates. But Friday night while Conner was open-air preaching a group of three guys walked by and one of them mouthed off. I didn’t think much of it (because it’s just the normal), but Conner had great insight. Conner boldly said, “It’s cowardice to mouth off something and walk off.” I’d never really thought about it, but he’s absolutely correct.

A person is a coward that mouths off something and walks away. If you really believed in your convictions, shouldn’t you stand up for what you believe? Mockers are cowards. If they weren’t, they’d have a real discussion. The mocker Friday night proved Conner’s point because even though Conner called him a coward and pointed out how cowardice it is to mouth off something and walk off, the mocker kept on walking.  [Read more…]

Two Christians With Two Very Different Reactions

Two Christians With Two Very Different Reactions

Ministry Update July 4, 2020

There weren’t as many people downtown as the week before. I really didn’t think the day before the holiday would matter that much, but maybe people were at the lake or traveling. While I brought the message, I had one mocker that just yelled as he drove by. Another vehicle slowed way down and the passenger in the rear rolled her window down and she grinned really big. The lady showed support for the name of Jesus being lifted up in the streets. She was a great encouragement. There also were three young men that walked by and one of the young men lifted up his hand when I mentioned the name Jesus Christ. After that I encountered two Christians with two very different reactions.

Mocker Yelling As He Drove By

Lady That Was Happy About Jesus Being Lifted Up

Young Man Liked Hearing The Name Of Jesus Being Lifted Up

Christian Questioning The Methodology Of Open-Air Preaching

Toward the end of open-air preaching, CJ came up and asked if I’d step down and talk to him. I told him I only needed a minute to finish up the message and I’d be happy to talk to him. He seemed a little put out that I didn’t immediately stop and talk, but he waited. I suspected that he was a ‘well-intentioned’ Christian that wanted to tell me that “this isn’t how you reach people” and that’s exactly what happened. I stepped down and he started saying that he didn’t think this was the right method to reach people. To which I replied, “I wish you would have heard the message” and his response was “I did.” Then I asked if he heard that God told Isaiah to lift up his voice like a trumpet in the street (Isaiah 58:1) and where Jesus said what you hear whispered in the hear, preach from the rooftop? (Matthew 10:27).

Yes, but…

“Don’t you think a trumpet is loud?” “Wouldn’t it be loud if I stood on that roof top across the street and preached from there?” “Yes, but don’t you think this methodology is wrong in reaching people here in the Bible Belt?” I really wanted to know how he could say he heard the things I said, ignored them and marched right back to his question. But I didn’t. He just kept telling me that he thought buying someone a cup of coffee and sharing the Gospel that way was the better way to witness. I told him if that’s the way he witnesses, praise God. Keep doing it. I would never tell him to quit his methodology and he shouldn’t try to talk me out of open-air preaching.

The young man told me that he’s a seminary student and several times he told me the message was right on (biblically sharing the Gospel), but that he thought we sometimes get too hung up on methodology. I agree that someone was hung up on methodology, but frankly, I think he was the one who was hung up on it. Many times he agreed with what I was saying, but always came back with, “but…”.  After we talked for a while I just had to thank him for his concern and we shook hands and he walked back across the street and joined his friends. I hate it when people complain about biblical witnessing, but I’ve learned over the years that people who believe this, very seldom change their minds. I’ve prayed about this many times over the years and God keeps compelling me to street witness.

Young Christian Supports Open-Air Preaching

Young Christian That Supports Open-Air Preaching

Earlier while I was open-air preaching, a young man walked by pulling a cooler and I’ve seen him doing this many times over the years. Most of the time he has friends with him, but Friday night he was also witnessing by himself. I said Hi to him when I saw him and as he was crossing the street, I mentioned that the young man was going downtown to offer people water and share the Gospel with them. He raised his hand up and waved. Then I asked the question: When we are truly saved, how could we not share the good news of eternal life with others? How could we keep the glorious Gospel to ourselves? The young man raised his hand up and waved again. Later I thought about how opposite these reactions were from these two young Christian men.

Handing Out Tracts

Before and after bring a message, I handed out tracts. At different times, two women asked “What is it?” when I tried to hand them a tract. I told them both that they were Gospel tracts and both of them took them. I was a little surprised. Many times when I tell people what they are they just say no thanks and keep walking. But these two women took them. Then I also saw a young man and his dad who I’ve seen downtown before and they always reject the tracts. Even though they walked together, the young man was a step ahead of his dad. The young man refused the tract, but to my surprise, the dad actually stopped and took one. Praise God for the tracts that went out and may God convict and convert lost souls through the Gospel tracts and the Gospel that went forth through the open-air.

Man Standing By Light Pole And I Had Several Mockers

Man Standing By Light Pole And Had Several Mockers

The one parking lot was full again Friday night and the other one near the witnessing spot was empty, just like last week. But this week there was a man standing by the light pole and I had several mockers. The man by the light pole listened to part of the message before moving on. I’m not sure why he stopped by the pole, but he did. I had a couple of mockers that walked by, but they weren’t very good mockers. I couldn’t hear what they said. The message was about whether you know that you are a sinner or not. Evidently, they didn’t like the question. Also had one car load of mockers drive by while I was pleading with people to repent and put their trust in Jesus. [Read more…]

Smaller Crowd Than Normal

Smaller Crowd Than Normal
Ministry Update June 7, 2020

Friday night I brought a message Are Deathbed Confessions Real in downtown Springfield, MO. The parking lot across the street was nearly full, but the lot behind me was completely empty. There weren’t nearly as many people out as would have been before COVID-19, but it was great to be out witnessing again. Five people stopped to listen to at least part of the message. A man in a wheelchair actually rolled down to the corner and he listened to the whole message. One gentleman kept yelling “Read Exodus 3:14”. I kept open-air preaching and every now and then he would yell the same thing. After I finished talking about how Jesus suffered, bled and died on the cross for guilty sinners and rose again from the grave and how the Lord is the only Savior and pleaded with people to repent and trust Him, I read Exodus 3:14.

The Great I AM

The man cheered after I read the words God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you,’” I pointed out that Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I am.” This is the One I’ve been talking about! Jesus is the great I AM. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords and every knee will bow to Him. Oh, but you must do so in this life in order to receive everlasting life. If you wait until Judgment Day to do so, it will be too late. On Judgment Day, those who say it then, will be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where they will suffer forever. After stating this, I pleaded with people to repent and surrender to Jesus. Today is the day of salvation.

After sharing the Gospel in the open-air, I walked around downtown and handed out tracts. Many people refused, but only one guy stated that it was because he was afraid of taking anything from anyone (afraid of the coronavirus). But I was quite surprised at the number of people who willingly took a Gospel tract. Some even took one after they asked me what it was and I told them that it’s a Gospel tract – it tells you about Jesus. May God bless the tracts and have people share them with others and may God bless the message that went forth, even though it was a smaller crowd than normal.

Look At That Hat!

Look At That Hat!

A student recorded me open-air preaching as he walked past me at Missouri State University on Wednesday. He was editorializing as he recorded. I couldn’t hear what he was saying while he was beside me, but after he was in front, exclaimed, “Look at that hat! Look at that HAT!” Most students just walked by without saying anything, but there was one student that waved encouragingly as he passed in front of me. Many students took tracts before and after the message. I estimate there were about four yeses to every no. It is always encouraging when students take Gospel tracts or New Testaments. May God bless the message that was proclaimed and may the Lord bless the tracts. May the students also share the tracts to others.

I Don’t Want To Hear This!

I Don’t Want To Hear This!

Ministry Update February 2, 2020

Kelly and I witnessed downtown Friday night and there was a good crowd, mainly due to the Aaron Watson concert at the Gillioz Theatre. We handed out Gospel tracts and both did open-air preaching. It was mainly quiet and I only remember one mocker. I was bringing a message when a guy and two girls walked up from behind us. One of the girls yelled real loudly, “I DON’T WANT TO HEAR THIS!” I just ignored her and kept open-air preaching. They crossed the street in front of us going West and then immediately crossed the next street going North. While they were crossing the second street, the girl that yelled, dropped what she was carrying and had to bend down to pick it up. This whole time she was still hearing the message. As I recently mentioned, people can’t unhear what they hear, even if they don’t want to hear it.  [Read more…]

Much Quieter Night

Ministry Update January 5, 2019

Friday night witnessing was a much quieter night than the Friday before. I’m thankful that it wasn’t full of crazy and angry people. But the downside was that it was too quiet. There were absolutely no mockers and no encouragers. I had just mentioned to a really good friend on Thursday how tough apathy is in street witnessing. You know mockers hear you and you know supporters hear you. But when people say nothing good or bad, it’s tough. My friend agreed and he knew exactly what I was talking about because he is involved in jail ministry and sometimes he encounters the same thing. Sometimes the men in jail seem engaged and ask good questions. Other times they just sit silently and say nothing. [Read more…]
