Whatever Happens, Happens

Ministry Update April 13, 2024

Conner, Doug and I witnessed downtown on March 29th. Doug got into a couple of conversations, but I couldn’t hear what they said. Conner talked to a guy who says that he grew up in a home where one parent was a Christian and the other one was a Muslim. He basically believes in Chrislam, that all roads lead to the same God. Conner tried to speak truth to the man, but he wouldn’t listen. Sadly, he only wanted to spout off his twisted beliefs. I only had one real conversation that night and it was with three skaters. The one that did the most talking said the he believes “Whatever happens, happens.”

All three of them were standing next to each other. I could tell the guy in the middle was around 6’3 or 6’4. So I asked him how tall he is and he said 6’4. The young man to his right was 6’2” and the guy to his right was much taller. So I looked up at the tall one asked how tall he is and stated that he’s 7’1” tall. I knew he was tall, but didn’t realize that he was that tall. After that, I asked them if they grew up in religious homes. The kid in the middle said that he grew up in a Christian home, but that he didn’t really believe anything. When I asked him what he thinks happens after we die, he replied, “Whatever happens, happens.”

I gently told him that Jesus says in Revelation 21:8 that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire and brimstone. That waiting until we die is too late. I kind of went through the good person test and they all admitted they had lied, etc. I could tell that they wouldn’t stick around long, so I shared the Gospel with them. Then I asked them if they would read a Bible if I gave them one. Sadly, they all admitted that they wouldn’t read it. But then Doug handed them all Million Dollar tracts and told them it had a summary on the back of what I had just shared with them. They politely thanked us and skated off.

Different Christian Reactions

The following Friday, April 5th, the three of us witnessed downtown during Art Walk. Conner talked to someone trying to get people to sign petitions. But other than that, it was really hard to get anyone to stop and talk to us. The woman that Conner talked to was out seeking people to sign a petition to ban the current Missouri Abortion Ban. She claimed to be a Christian, but believes in a woman’s right to choose. Conner talked with her for quite a while, but she didn’t budge. I didn’t get into any conversations. But Doug had some interesting interactions while he handed out tracts, especially with professing Christians.

Two ladies that go to the largest church in the area, both refused tracts. So while they waited for the light to change at the cross walk, Doug suggested that they take the tracts, read them and pass them on to someone who needs them. The both refused. One woman said that her hands were too full. She was holding a cup of coffee along with an Art Walk flyer in one hand and the other one was empty. The other woman also refused to take a tract. It’s always sad when professing Christian can’t think of one person to hand a tract to. We all have unsaved family, friends, co-workers, etc.

But then Doug had a couple of different reactions. A young couple also said no to the tracts and told us they go to Hill City Church. So I said, “Oh, the one that used to meet here at the Gillioz Theatre (right down the street from where we were).” They both smiled and said yes. But then Doug suggested that they take the tracts, read them and hand them to someone else and they both gladly accepted his offer. (This reactions seems more normal for a true believer). Then we walked around later on and a lady refused the tract because she didn’t need it. She said something to the effect that Jesus is already her Lord and Savior. When Doug stated that she should take it and read it and then before he could finish she interjected, “And then hand it to someone else.” Yes! This is a Christian who gets it. Handing out tracts isn’t the only to share your faith in Jesus, but it sure is an easy way to do so.

(These updates are provided to encourage Christians to share the glorious Gospel with others)

The Meaning Of Christ

The Meaning of Christ

Do you know the meaning of Christ? You’ve heard of Jesus Christ. People say it like Christ is Jesus’ last name. Others say Jesus Christ emphatically like a curse word. They may not even realize what they are really saying, but they are still blaspheming Jesus’ Holy name just the same. People say Jesus Christ, but what is the meaning of Christ?

Again, Christ is not Jesus’ last name. Christ is a title. Like King Jesus or Lord Jesus. Christ means Messiah. The Messiah was the one prophesied about in the Old Testament – the Messiah, the Anointed One. The promised Christ or Messiah is a Deliverer of His people. Christ is a savior. Not just any savior, but the Savior of His people.

Why Share The Gospel?

February 28, 2023 by dennis@seekandsavethelost.com Leave a Comment

Why Share The Gospel?

Why share the Gospel? Because Jesus shared the Gospel when He walked this earth 2,000 years ago. Mark 1:14-15 says: Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people (Matthew 4:23). These are just a few verses about Jesus preaching the Gospel. [Read more…]

Contradictions In The Bible And Other Excuses

Contradictions In The Bible And Other Excuses

While out street witnessing, we hear many unbelievers claim that there are contradictions in the Bible and other excuses. These claims usually come out when men and women are confronted with their own sinfulness and God’s Holiness. Instead of recognizing and accepting their failures, short comings, out-right sinfulness and ungodliness, they fall back on excuses such as the Bible was written by men, other religions talk about a flood and have a savior as well as there being contradictions in the Bible and other excuses.

But are there really contradictions in the Bible? We recently had a young man claim this while we witnessed to him. When asked to give us an example, the young man was unable to do so. More times than not, this is the case. Unbelievers who claim that there are contradictions in the Bible can’t even provide one example. Even when someone makes an attempt to show one, they are typically feeble attempts or a real stretch. [Read more…]

Do Not Be Deceived

Do Not Be Deceived

Some people believe some crazy things – especially when it comes to religion. If you don’t believe me, come out street witnessing with us. You’ll hear people say that we are star dust and God haters will say that ultimately nothing created everything. (How much do you have to hate God to believe this nonsense?) But sadly, others are deceived through false religions and maybe the worst of all are the people that are so deceived that they come up with their own religion. But the Bible warns us – do not be deceived.

When I say some people have made their own religion, I mean they may take some things from the Bible and add or subtract from it (and the Bible warns us not to do this). For example, it’s been said that Thomas Jefferson took out the supernatural – all the miracles of Jesus and only used the moral teachings of Jesus for Jefferson’s Bible. Now most unbelievers that we meet on the streets don’t go to that extreme, but they are making their own “god” or their own religion when they reject Jesus – the only Savior of mankind. [Read more…]

You Are The Man!

You Are The Man!

Have you ever had someone tell you, “You are the man!” Or “You’re the man?” Obviously, people mean this is in a good way. Maybe you’ve done a really good job at work or your department has performed really well and people at work will tell you, “You are the man!” Or maybe you were really good at sports in high school and people called you “the man or the woman”. Again, we typically hear this as being a good thing. But did you know the Bible talks about a person being the man and it’s not in a good way?

The Bible tells us that at the time when kings typically went out to war, King David stayed in his palace. One day he was walking on the roof top, looking around and he saw a beautiful woman taking a bath. He told one of his servants to fetch her and they did. Then David committed adultery with the woman. The woman’s name was Bathsheba and she was married to Uriah the Hittite. Well, Bathsheba became pregnant from their sexual encounter, so David thought no problem, he’d just have her husband brought back home from the war. Uriah would sleep with his wife and the problem would be solved. [Read more…]

Foolishness

Foolishness

When you hear the word foolish, what do you think of? Stupid? Ignorant? Lacking of knowledge? A foolish person is someone that is unwise or uses bad judgment. The biblical meaning of foolishness is absurdity or folly (according to the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary). The Bible actually talks about preaching of Christ Jesus and Him crucified as appearing like foolishness to the world. So I ask you tonight, does our lifting up the Lord Jesus out here on the streets sound like foolishness to you? [Read more…]

Savior Of The World

Savior Of The World

I love reading the Bible and the other day I was reading John 4 about Jesus and the woman at the well. It’s a great story, but what really jumped out at me was the people of Sychar called Jesus the Savior of the world. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and there is no other. The Lord Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords and He is the only Savior of the world.

Acts 12:4 states: Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent (John 17:3). [Read more…]

Do You Really Want God To Judge You?

August 4, 2020 by dennis@seekandsavethelost.com Leave a Comment

Do You Really Want God To Judge You?

The bible verse that’s thrown in an open-air preacher’s face more than any other is Matthew 7:1 – Judge not that ye be not judged. This may very well be the most overused and misquoted verse in the Bible. If you read further past verse one, you will see that Jesus is saying don’t be a hypocrite. I shouldn’t preach against adultery if I’m an adulterer. Jesus isn’t saying we shouldn’t judge (in fact He tells us to judge with righteous judgment – John 7:24). Along these same lines, we frequently hear people shout “Only God can judge me.” [Read more…]

Why The Message – Beaten Beyond Recognition?

Why The Message – Beaten Beyond Recognition?

The death of George Floyd was horrendous and inexcusable. The policeman that callously choked the life out of Mr. Floyd should be punished. Just as horrible as this death was, the violent mobs around the country, especially those attacking people is also horrendous and inexcusable. The man in Dallas that was beaten unconscious was also a despicable, horrendous act of violence. All of this violence and other terrible stories of murder and mayhem around the world remind me of the one who was beaten beyond recognition. Why the message – Beaten Beyond Recognition? Because the one who was beaten beyond recognition is the One – the only Savior of mankind. Jesus, fully God and fully man, came to this very earth that He created and lived perfect, sinless life. The Lord never sinned, not one time. Yet He willingly went to the cruel cross to take the punishment that He didn’t deserve. [Read more…]
