Every Friday night street witnessing is different. We never know what we are going to encounter. Sometimes mockers, other times encouragers and periodically both. Last week there were many of us witnessing and this week only two of us. It is a real privilege and honor to lift up the name of Jesus in the open-air with Kelly, Conner and Pastor Joshua and it’s been great having Rich join us witnessing while he’s visiting from China. Earlier in the week it looked like I was going to be witnessing downtown Friday night by myself and I must confess I was a little bitter about it. God convicted me over my bitterness, I prayed for His forgiveness and received it. God was going to be glorified even if all that happened were a few tracts handed out. Do Atheists need a new name? I run into people all the time who claim that they are atheists and they vehemently say, “God is not real” or “there is no God.” They are very adamant in their stance. Atheists do not believe that God exists. The original meaning in the Greek is without God. But atheists aren’t neutral to this God they say doesn’t exist. No they are very much opposed to the great Creator God. The One who is all-knowing, all-powerful and ever present. Since they hate the One True God, do atheists need a new name? [Read more…]
Even though it was cold Friday night (but not as cold as other parts of the country), we had good fellowship. Kelly, Conner, Brandon and I had a great time visiting. Friday night Conner and I witnessed downtown. North Point Church had a special event at the Gillioz Theater across the street from us. The event was called The Gathering that I’ve been told they do a couple of times a year. I think the theater holds close to a thousand people and there appeared to be hundreds of people coming out when the event when it was over. So we had a larger crowd than most Friday nights and I’m sure most people walking past us thought we were preaching to the choir. But that’s alright, the choir needs to hear the Gospel too. Friday night it was a real blessing to have Kelly and his son Steven join me downtown. We started off at the corner of St. Louis and Jefferson. There’s a nice little park like area there that my wife Polly calls the park, so I may refer to this new spot as the park in the future. We started off here and then later moved to South and Walnut. That’s why I’m calling this update double header. Just like when we used to play back to back softball games (called a double header) when I was younger, we had two different preaching spots Friday night. We had a great time witnessing. [Read more…]
I witnessed at Planned Parenthood on Friday during my lunch hour. There was only one van there when I got there and the two women inside were the only customers I saw that day. Shortly after I began preaching, they came out. They cranked their radio up as they drove away so they couldn’t hear what I was saying. [Read more…]
Friday night witnessing downtown in Springfield, MO started off slow but didn’t stay that way. Joe, Darlene and I got there first and handed out tracts. Most of the people that walked by rejected tracts, but a few took them. Then Kelly joined us, but it was still going slowly at that time. But even before we started preaching, there were some good conversations. Joe and Kelly both were really good at getting into conversations. [Read more…]
Friday night Allen, Aaron and I were joined by Serenity and Desi witnessing downtown. While the three guys were preaching, the girls handed out tracts. A couple of women walked up to them and the one asked Serenity and Desi “Are they holding you against your will?” Desi told them no, that Aaron was their pastor. [Read more…]
