Is Love The Only Doctrine?

June 12, 2023 by dennis@seekandsavethelost.com Leave a Comment

Is Love The Only Doctrine?

I saw a church sign the other day that read, “Love is the only doctrine of this church.” That sounds lovely, doesn’t it? What’s wrong with love? In fact, the Bible says God is love. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love (1 John 4:8). And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him (1 John 4:16). God is love. So is love the only doctrine? Is this what the Bible says?

Is love the only doctrine? No it is not. God is love. Love is one of God’s many, many, countless attributes. But it is only one of many. Yes, again, God is love. But God is also righteous, Holy and just. He is even wrathful. You can’t just tout one attribute of God. In doing so, you miss God! You miss the God of the Bible. We can never fully understand God with our finite minds. But God graciously gave us His word so we can know Him.

Love Is Not The Only Doctrine

God’s word points us to Jesus Christ the Lord and love is NOT the only doctrine of Jesus. The Lord Jesus was tough on self-righteous, religious leaders. But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in (Matthew 23:13). Jesus was also tough on His own disciples. Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken (Luke 24:25).

The woke crowd in America would most definitely call Jesus unloving because of the words He spoke to the religious leaders and to His own disciples. Worse yet, Jesus was intolerant. Very intolerant. Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). Yes, woke Americans will not tolerate the intolerance of Jesus. Even though He is he Sons of God and He is the only Savior. [Read more…]

Magnify The Lord

Magnify The Lord

As Christians, we are to magnify the Lord. To my fellow Christians, do you magnify the Lord? In other words, do you praise God? Do you exalt or extol the Lord? Do you lift of up the precious name of Jesus to others? Do you share the Gospel with this lost and dying world? Do you magnify Jesus – the name above every other name?

Psalm 70:4 says: Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified. In Luke Chapter 1, the angel Gabriel tells Mary that she is going to have a son by the power of the Holy Spirit and that He will be a King and his kingdom will reign forever. Mary went to see her cousin Elizabeth and Mary spoke these words: My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour (Luke 1:46-47). [Read more…]

Why Share The Gospel?

Why Share The Gospel?

Why share the Gospel? Because Jesus shared the Gospel when He walked this earth 2,000 years ago. Mark 1:14-15 says: Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people (Matthew 4:23). These are just a few verses about Jesus preaching the Gospel. [Read more…]

Foolishness

Foolishness

When you hear the word foolish, what do you think of? Stupid? Ignorant? Lacking of knowledge? A foolish person is someone that is unwise or uses bad judgment. The biblical meaning of foolishness is absurdity or folly (according to the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary). The Bible actually talks about preaching of Christ Jesus and Him crucified as appearing like foolishness to the world. So I ask you tonight, does our lifting up the Lord Jesus out here on the streets sound like foolishness to you? [Read more…]

Christ Is A Great Savior

Christ Is A Great Savior

John Newton, the man who wrote the wonderful hymn Amazing Grace, also stated: Although my memory’s fading, I remember two things very clearly: I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior. I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. I am a great sinner that has been saved by the grace of God and my salvation is found in Jesus alone. Christ is a great Savior and He is my Lord and Savior.  [Read more…]

Christian Shaming

Christian Shaming

In today’s world of tolerance, there is one particular group of people that is ok to pick on. There’s one group of people that it seems like it’s politically correct to degrade and harass. There is one group of people that it is the “in” thing to shame and that’s Christians. Today’s tolerant world is very intolerant toward Christians. In fact, we see Christian shaming all the time.  [Read more…]

Why Do You Believe In God?

Why Do You Believe In God?

Last week at Missouri State University, a student asked me, “Why do you believe in God?” This young man introduced himself to me earlier in the year as being an atheist (and even included his sexual preference which I didn’t ask about). But last week in addition to wanting to know if I believe in science (which I do – biblical science), he also wanted to know: why do you believe in God?  [Read more…]

Not A Very Good Speaker

Not A Very Good Speaker

Last week a guy commented on a post for Seek and Save the Lost. He stated that God should not have put the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the garden of Eden. I tried to explain to the guy that he was basically committing the same sin that Satan committed when he got kicked out of Heaven. I suggested that he repent and put his trust in Jesus. To which this guy replied that his relationship with Jesus was just fine, that I’m “not a very good speaker” and that I should leave the women at Planned Parenthood alone.  [Read more…]

Deceitful Lusts

Deceitful Lusts

The Bible talks about lusting as being deceitful. Are you caught up in deceitful lusts? Why are you downtown tonight? Are you here to fulfill the pleasures of the flesh? Are you trying to satisfy the lusts of your heart? Will what you are seeking tonight provide you with long lasting joy? Are you deceived tonight?  [Read more…]
