Whether it’s at Missouri State University, Planned Parenthood, Pridefest or downtown Springfield, MO, I’m always amazed at how mad unbelievers get over the Gospel being proclaimed in the open-air. Going the wrong way in more ways than one described witnessing downtown Friday night. Even though Conner and I had a slow night, we saw people going the wrong way while driving and people going the wrong way spiritually. People driving the wrong way is a real concern because someone can get hurt or even killed. But people going the wrong way spiritually is an even greater concern. Rich, Kelly, Steven and I witnessed downtown Friday night and it was a night with many mockers. Rich started us off. He had a few people revving their cars, scooters and motorcycles revving their engines as well as people yelling out of their cars. But he also had a guy that had an amplifier that was in one of the loft apartments across the parking lot in front of us. The guy kept repeating how he was gay (but he used a derogatory term for homosexuals) and kept mocking through probably the last half of Rich’s message. This guy said that he’s going to live his alternative lifestyle and then plans on a deathbed confession at the very end. [Read more…]
Wednesday at Planned Parenthood was pretty quiet. One young man went inside and at another time a young woman went in, but that was about it except for the red car that was there for over 30 minutes with a bunch of kids inside. When my wife and I first got there, they had all the windows down. When I started open-air preaching, the driver rolled the windows up and cranked up the stereo as loud as it would go. Friday night was another fairly quiet night witnessing downtown. Three of us brought messages, several more sang and handed out tracts, but overall it was quiet. Kelly had one mocker yell “Hail Satan” while he was open-air preaching. Earlier when Rich was nearly finished with his message, a guy drove by right in front of him and flipped Rich off with both hands, leaving no hands on the wheel. [Read more…]
Every Friday night street witnessing is different. We never know what we are going to encounter. Sometimes mockers, other times encouragers and periodically both. Last week there were many of us witnessing and this week only two of us. But I realized on the way home Friday night that it really is a blessing to witness with other believers because we get in an extra night of fellowship. [Read more…]
Praise God we had seven laborers witnessing downtown. Unfortunately, it was a slow night. There weren’t a lot of people downtown. But Kelly, Steven, Conner, Pastor Joshua, Rich, Dave and I still had a good time witnessing. We handed out a few tracts and had a few mockers. But Pastor Joshua had the best conversation of the night when he discussed with a teenager and his friends that knowing about Jesus is not the same as knowing Jesus and the teen said that he is unworthy to be saved. Dave, Conner And Tracy
Rich and I were the first ones to the witnessing spot Friday night and we talked to a couple of guys. The one young man was from Bolivar and I think his friend lives in Springfield. We gave them tracts and they both said they are Christians. The guy from Springfield wanted to know how effective open-air preaching is so we talked about obedience to God and the results are up to Him. Then a lady named Tracy said that she was looking for Allen. I told her that he’s probably on the square witnessing. She couldn’t find him, so she came back and witnessed with us until Allen found her later on. This was just the beginning of the night, but we had conversations before during and after open-air preaching. [Read more…]
Is That A Bible In Your Hands?
Pastor Joshua and I had a great time witnessing Friday night. It was not a circus-like atmosphere like the week before. In fact it was a pretty quiet night. Oh we had several mockers, but nothing major. One guy yelled at Pastor Joshua to shut up and then black smoke billowed out of the guy’s tailpipe as he drove away. A woman walking yelled at him and a couple of drivers yelled at me. But one car pulled up while I was bringing a message and it was a full carload of people.
