Atrocious Act

On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2020, a 29 year-old killed his girlfriend and her 13 year-old son. The man also tried to kill the woman’s two daughters, ages 7 and 14, but they both survived the attack. This happened right here in Springfield, Missouri. This was a shocking crime in Southwest Missouri. But this horrendous crime pales in comparison to King Herod killing 2,000 boys that were 2 years old and younger in Bethlehem. Herod ordered the killings because he was trying to kill baby Jesus. Obviously, King Herod failed in his attempt, but he did succeed in his atrocious act of killing 2,000 precious little boys. Friday night the Springfield Opera celebrated their 40-year gala at the Gillioz Theatre. I’m sure they had a sweet time at the gala. Ben and I had sweet Christian fellowship outside. While I was bringing a message, Ben rode up on his bicycle. He’s the same guy that recently prayed for me when I had a rough day and couldn’t even open-air preach that night. But this time I was talking about God being angry with the wicked forever and after the message, Ben and I had a great brotherly discussion. It was a sweet time of fellowship. [Read more…]

Rain, Rain Go Away

Ministry Update August 4 ,2019

All week long the weather forecast bounced around from 40% to 60% for Friday night. At 5 pm, it dropped down to 5%. I was very excited since it was Art Walk and there should be a good crowd. But I joked with my wife a little after 5 pm that it could just as likely be 30% chance of rain in a couple of hours. Well I was way off. It was raining when I left home to head downtown and the forecast had jumped up to 80%. All I could think of was when I was a little kid and I couldn’t go outside to play because it was raining too hard and I used to sing, “Rain, rain go away come again another day.” [Read more…]

In Psalm 37, King David tells us: Do not fret over evildoers. We are not to fret over the workers and patrons of Planned Parenthood. He also tells us that we are not to be envious of you. Your life is but a vapor. You will fade like the grass withers. You are here today and gone tomorrow. If you die in your sins, die as a baby murderer, you will split Hell wide open after you die. You will suffer the flames of Hell for all eternity for your sins, all your sins, for your rebellion against God. Many times it’s quiet when my wife and I witness at Planned Parenthood. We go there, I open-air preach and we leave. Sometimes there’s zero interaction. But that was not the case this last Wednesday. I had three admonishers and one woman put a curse on me. I joked with my wife that we got our money’s worth that day. People didn’t like that I was lifting up Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Friday night I had a couple of encouragers and a couple of mockers. A young man from Hawaii came up and encouraged me before I even brought a message. I was handing out New Testaments at the time and he took one as well as a young Muslim woman. Then I brought a message and didn’t use the amplifier. One driver revved his engine while stopped at the stop sign, trying to drown out the Gospel. Then a couple came by riding bicycles and they stopped near me. They had a vicious looking dog, and the man told me that I better be careful before I get back up on the box using the bullhorn, because his dog wouldn’t like it. It rained Friday all afternoon and right up to the time I started witnessing downtown. Even though it was Art Walk, there weren’t many people downtown. I guess the rain kept most people away. There wasn’t much foot traffic downtown Friday night. I handed out less than 10 New Testaments at our normal witnessing spot. Then I walked to the square and about a half a block away I heard the name of Jesus being proclaimed. First Assembly in Strafford, MO had evidently obtained a permit for Friday night. I didn’t want to interrupt their service, so I handed out New Testaments to people standing near or sitting around the edge of the square. Afterward, I walked back to where I started. Friday night witnessing was a little strange this week. It was Artwalk and there was a band on the square and the street around the square was blocked off to traffic. Also, just North of our normal witnessing spot, Jefferson was blocked off to traffic and there was another band playing there. They were so loud, that Conner and I crossed the street and I brought a short message with the amp at about half volume. One guy stopped and shook my hand and thanked me for sharing the Gospel. But after I finished, Conner said that he wanted to go to the square and talk to the Atheists set up there. We did talk to them, but turns out Atheists demand the impossible. [Read more…]

We had another blessed time witnessing downtown Friday night. Scotty McCreery was performing at the Gilloz Theatre and the weather was perfect, especially after all the recent storms. So there was good foot traffic and we had the usual mix of mockers and encouragers. But while I was bringing a message about condemnation and Jesus saying those who don’t believe will be damned a guy stopped to talk to Pastor Joshua and told him Jesus would never say that.
