Much Quieter Night

Ministry Update January 5, 2019

Friday night witnessing was a much quieter night than the Friday before. I’m thankful that it wasn’t full of crazy and angry people. But the downside was that it was too quiet. There were absolutely no mockers and no encouragers. I had just mentioned to a really good friend on Thursday how tough apathy is in street witnessing. You know mockers hear you and you know supporters hear you. But when people say nothing good or bad, it’s tough. My friend agreed and he knew exactly what I was talking about because he is involved in jail ministry and sometimes he encounters the same thing. Sometimes the men in jail seem engaged and ask good questions. Other times they just sit silently and say nothing. [Read more…]

How Much?

How Much?
Ministry Update November 10, 2019

I had several mockers when I witnessed downtown Friday night. It’s been several years since this has happened, but one woman (apparently very drunk), propositioned me from the backseat of a car. I was turned slightly away from her at first, so I turned her direction and she yelled, “How much?” and then she laughed as the car drove away. Sometimes I reply “No thank you, I’m happily married”, but this time I didn’t say anything. [Read more…]

Where Did Your Original Thoughts Come From?

Where Did Your Original Thoughts Come From?

Where did your original thoughts come from? This is the question the young man asked on Wed. at MSU. After going around in circles many times, I finally figured out that the point he was trying to make is that according to his worldview, God causes evil, then it’s God’s fault when the young man does something wrong (when he sins). He said this is unfair. I told him that the potter has the right to make one vessel for honor and another vessel for dishonor (Romans 9:21). [Read more…]

No One Wants To Hear You

No One Wants To Hear You

“No one wants to hear you.” Unfortunately, we hear this frequently while out street witnessing. In fact, my friends and I heard it while witnessing at MU this last week. I also heard it the week before while open-air preaching at MSU. No one wants to hear you. So does that mean we should shut our Bibles and go home, because no one wants to hear us? Is that all it takes to run an open-air preacher off is just for a mocker to state “No one wants to hear you?” [Read more…]

Very Encouraging Night

Ministry Update August 11, 2019

Friday night was a very encouraging night of witnessing. It started with the Route 66 Parade where I handed out tracts a little after 5:30 pm. I handed out a few tracts and a woman and her son stood near me waiting to cross the street. I gave them both tracts. The woman then asked if I was married to Polly and I said that I am. Then she told me she recognized me from my wife’s Facebook page. I also ran into several people from Crossway Baptist Church as well as several others from my previous church. Then a couple of customers recognized me. A few people said Hi to me and I also recognized them, but just couldn’t place where I knew them from. [Read more…]

Quiet Except For The Police Interaction

Ministry Update July 6, 2019

It rained Friday all afternoon and right up to the time I started witnessing downtown. Even though it was Art Walk, there weren’t many people downtown. I guess the rain kept most people away. I had one encourager. A guy driving by with his window down gave a thumbs up while I was open-air preaching. Other than that, it was quiet except for the police interaction. [Read more…]

Is Everyone Really Awesome?

Ministry Update April 28, 2019

Kelly, Conner and I witnessed downtown Friday night and the couple with signs were back. Just like before, they held signs that read, “You Are Wonderful” and “You Are Awesome.” Then on the ground between them, they had a sign that said, “Acceptance Not Judgment.” Since that sign was obviously directed toward us, I wonder if that means we aren’t awesome after all? As people walked past, the couple yelled, “You Are Wonderful” and “You Are Awesome.” Guess what? Most people that they said this to, repeated the same words back to the couple. I’m sure they went home feeling really good about themselves. But is true? Are you awesome? Are you wonderful? Is everyone really awesome? [Read more…]

The Chasing Evangelist

Ministry Update January 6, 2019

Friday night Pastor Joshua, Thomas and I witnessed downtown. Thomas typically chases people down the sidewalk whether they accept or refuse a tract. Friday night I witnessed him walking with people to the East, West and South. This is not unusual. But this time I did ask the chasing evangelist what he says to people as he’s walking beside them, especially when they refuse a tract.  [Read more…]

Still Had Mockers On A Slow Night

Ministry Update December 23, 2018

Pastor Joshua, Conner and I witnessed downtown Friday night and it was a really slow night. We suspected it would be when we pulled up and the parking lot we normally park in (or at least try to park in most Friday nights) was nearly empty. It turned out to be a slow as we suspected. In fact it was so slow, that Conner walked around the block by the square just to see if anything else was going on. Since there wasn’t, he came back to our normal spot. But we still had mockers on a slow night.  [Read more…]

Going The Wrong Way

Going The Wrong Way

Ministry Update November 25 2018

Going the wrong way in more ways than one described witnessing downtown Friday night. Even though Conner and I had a slow night, we saw people going the wrong way while driving and people going the wrong way spiritually. People driving the wrong way is a real concern because someone can get hurt or even killed. But people going the wrong way spiritually is an even greater concern. Those who die in their sins will be damned forever.  [Read more…]
