What Time Is Purple?

Ministry Update April 14, 2019

Six of us participated in the What Time Is Purple? Outreach at Missouri State University on Wednesday and we praise God that 1,174 students took the booklets. The weather was great and I’m very thankful that Carla, Connie, Sebastian, Vinton and Jerry joined me for the outreach. We pray that God will use the booklets to reach unbelievers and also to encourage believing students in refuting evolution. [Read more…]

Cold But Not Too Cold For Mockers

Cold But Not Too Cold For Mockers

Ministry Update February 11, 2018

It was 24 degrees Friday night and the wind chill made it even colder. So I have to admit, that I only lasted about 30 minutes witnessing. It was cold but not too cold for mockers. Several people were out walking around. One guy listened to part of the message for a short time. While I was bringing a message, a car pulled up right in front of me. Two guys hopped out and one of them said something before he jumped on top of the trunk of a car parked near me. But his friend started the car up, so the other guy jumped into the car before he drove off. Right toward the end of my message, four people crossed the street and one woman mocked, but I really couldn’t hear what she said.

Would You Like A Cup of Coffee?

It wasn’t as cold on Wednesday at Missouri State University, but it was cold, windy and rainy. It rained right up until I started witnessing. There were a couple of mockers that day and the man who mocked me last time I was there smiled like he was going to say something as he walked by, but turned out that he didn’t. The highlight of the time on campus was a student that walked up to me and said, “God bless” and asked, “Would you like a cup of coffee?” I told him no thanks and said “God bless” back to him. I’m always grateful for people who encourage open-air preaching.

(May God save many lost souls and these updates are given to encourage Christians to share their faith in our Lord and Savior – Jesus Christ.)

You Have Received Your Reward

Ministry Update Jan 27, 2019

Since it was only 22 degrees on Wednesday when I witnessed at Missouri State University, I really expected little to no interaction. It turned out to be very little interaction. One young lady stopped for a few seconds and recorded while I was bringing a message. Then shortly after that a young man walked by me saying “You have received your reward.” He was referring to Matthew 6:5, but sadly, he was taking that verse out of context.  [Read more…]

Nearly Deserted Campus

Ministry Update January 13, 2018

Missouri State University is currently offering Winter Intersession classes. These are typically one to three week classes offered during Christmas break and they must be intense. It is my understanding that the students have to cover the same amount of material that they would in a regular semester class. It’s been several years since I’ve witnessed at MSU during one of these intersession class times and I found the campus nearly deserted.  [Read more…]

Why Do You Get So Mad?

Why Do You Get So Mad?

Whether it’s at Missouri State University, Planned Parenthood, Pridefest or downtown Springfield, MO, I’m always amazed at how mad unbelievers get over the Gospel being proclaimed in the open-air. Some people get so enraged they don’t know what to do. They stomp around and usually cuss out the open-air preacher and vehemently claim that God isn’t real. If this describes you tonight, why do you get so mad?  [Read more…]

Why Do You Come Here?

Ministry Update November 11, 2018

I had some interesting interactions at Missouri State University on Wednesday. I handed out tracts while walking to the witnessing spot. One lady took a tract, but when she realized what it was, she handed it back and said I go to church. Personally, I wouldn’t respond that way. I’d say “I’m a believer too” or “I’m a follower of Jesus.” But mainly I take tracts when offered them. I like to see what other people are handing out. You never know, I may find a tract that I like even better than what I’m currently using. This was my first interaction and the last one ended with “Why do you come here?”  [Read more…]

Sin Means To Miss The Mark

Ministry Update September 9, 2018

On Wednesday at Missouri State University I couldn’t get a permit for my usual spot. So I open-air preached at Strong Hall. I like Strong Hall, it was the first spot I witnessed at when I started witnessing at MSU around seven years ago. Toward the end of the message, a young woman stopped to listen and then she came over to talk afterwards. She studies Hebrew at the university and she said the Greek word for sin means to miss the mark. To that I said a hearty Amen!   [Read more…]

Need To Sugarcoat It

Ministry Update August 26, 2018

Since classes started at Missouri State University this last week, I witnessed there during the lunch hour on Wednesday. Toward the end of the message a student came over to talk to me. He had listened to a good portion of the open-air preaching. He walked up and said, “I like what you do here, but you don’t want to scare off the new students. You need to sugarcoat it.” I didn’t address his concern, we just talked a little bit. Then all of he sudden he laughed and said, “I guess you really can’t sugarcoat it, can you?” Then I told him that I was going to ask him where Jesus sugarcoated it and that I’d be happy to do the same. The best part was he figured out that you really can’t sugarcoat the Gospel and he came to this conclusion without me even addressing it.  [Read more…]

Two For And Two Against Does Not Make It Even

Ministry Update 3/4/18

On Wednesday at Missouri State University, I had two for me and two against me but that doesn’t make it even. Witnessing isn’t like a tug of war. It wasn’t like I had two mockers and two encouragers, so somehow it all evens out. Two for and two against does not make it even. When the Lord is on your side, there’s no contest at all.  [Read more…]

Quiet All Around

Ministry Update February 25, 2018

Some weeks street witnessing are really exciting. Others are more on the dull side. This week witnessing was quiet all around. Polly and I witnessed downtown in Springfield, MO in the rain on Friday night. Obviously, there weren’t a lot of people out milling around, but there were a few. A couple of people up the street appeared to be listening to part of the message, but overall it was rather quiet. It also was raining enough that we really didn’t get to hand out any tracts. But the Gospel went forth and I pray that God was honored by the precious name of Jesus Christ being lifted up in the open-air.   [Read more…]
