Foolishness

Foolishness

When you hear the word foolish, what do you think of? Stupid? Ignorant? Lacking of knowledge? A foolish person is someone that is unwise or uses bad judgment. The biblical meaning of foolishness is absurdity or folly (according to the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary). The Bible actually talks about preaching of Christ Jesus and Him crucified as appearing like foolishness to the world. So I ask you tonight, does our lifting up the Lord Jesus out here on the streets sound like foolishness to you? [Read more…]

Cowardice To Mouth Off Something And Walk Off

Cowardice To Mouth Off Something And Walk Off

Ministry Update July 12, 2020

I’d say we typically have more mockers than not while open-air preaching and I’ve mentioned mockers many times when giving updates. But Friday night while Conner was open-air preaching a group of three guys walked by and one of them mouthed off. I didn’t think much of it (because it’s just the normal), but Conner had great insight. Conner boldly said, “It’s cowardice to mouth off something and walk off.” I’d never really thought about it, but he’s absolutely correct.

A person is a coward that mouths off something and walks away. If you really believed in your convictions, shouldn’t you stand up for what you believe? Mockers are cowards. If they weren’t, they’d have a real discussion. The mocker Friday night proved Conner’s point because even though Conner called him a coward and pointed out how cowardice it is to mouth off something and walk off, the mocker kept on walking.  [Read more…]

Why The Message – Beaten Beyond Recognition?

Why The Message – Beaten Beyond Recognition?

The death of George Floyd was horrendous and inexcusable. The policeman that callously choked the life out of Mr. Floyd should be punished. Just as horrible as this death was, the violent mobs around the country, especially those attacking people is also horrendous and inexcusable. The man in Dallas that was beaten unconscious was also a despicable, horrendous act of violence. All of this violence and other terrible stories of murder and mayhem around the world remind me of the one who was beaten beyond recognition. Why the message – Beaten Beyond Recognition? Because the one who was beaten beyond recognition is the One – the only Savior of mankind. Jesus, fully God and fully man, came to this very earth that He created and lived perfect, sinless life. The Lord never sinned, not one time. Yet He willingly went to the cruel cross to take the punishment that He didn’t deserve. [Read more…]

Why The Message – What Will Happen To J.T. Everlost?

Why The Message – What Will Happen To J.T. Everlost

Why the message – What Will Happen To J.T. Everlost? The message came from encounters in person and online with J.T. Eberhard. J.T. is one of the founders of Skepticon. They are an atheist group that meets in Springfield, MO once a year. I hear it’s a pretty tawdry and disgusting drunk fest and they make fun of God (who ironically they say doesn’t exist. Why would you make fun of someone that isn’t real?). Anyway, they used to hold the event at the Gillioz Theatre or The Expo Center and we could interact with people coming and going to the event. But several years ago they moved it to another location where we can no longer talk to them. I guess they didn’t want to come out and play anymore. [Read more…]

We’re All Going To Die!

We’re All Going To Die!

We’re all going to die! We’re all going to die! Yes, people are panicked over Covid-19 or the coronavirus. People are afraid of dying. All of this panicking has caused a shortage of hand sanitizer toilet paper and milk. Obviously, people need to quit hoarding necessary items and we all need to just shop like normal. Of course we all need to use necessary precautions and wash our hands and limit our exposure to others. But should we all be panicked? Should we all be running around screaming “We’re all going to die! We’re all going to die!”? [Read more…]

The Words Of Jesus

The Words of Jesus

Recently someone challenged me to bring a message with just the words of Jesus. In other words, the man didn’t want me to talk about the Old Testament or bring up the words that the Apostle Paul wrote. So even though I’m taking this person up on their challenge, I want to make clear that all 66 books of the Bible are inspired by God. The rest of the Bible is God’s word and is just as inspired by the Holy Spirit as the red letters (the words of Jesus) are (2 Timothy 3:16). [Read more…]

Too Much

Ministry Update March 7, 2020

Conner talked to one of the sign guys on the square before we both did open-air preaching. The sign guys believe that God does most of the work in salvation, but then we have to our part. They also believe in sinless perfectionism and they believe that you have to be good enough after salvation before you die, to go to Heaven. Typically, you can’t get anywhere with these guys, but Conner said that he had good conversation with one of them and the guy was at least thinking about what he said. While that was going on at the square, I was at our usual spot handing out New Testaments and Gospel tracts. My favorite encounter was with a guy who replied, “Too much.” [Read more…]

Heck Yeah!

Ministry Update February 16, 2020

Unlike last week where there were so many encouragers, there weren’t any this Friday night. But just like last Friday, I had another person mocking about Hell and he was proud that he is headed for Hell. The message this Friday was positive. It was about joy, real joy, the joy that is found in Christ Jesus alone. The only mention of Hell was toward the end when I pleaded with people to repent and trust Jesus for salvation instead of dying in their sins and going to Hell. I was basically asking the question: Why would you die and go to Hell when the young man yelled Heck Yeah! [Read more…]

Jimmy Listened To The Whole Message

This Is Very Edifying
Ministry Update December 29, 2019

Friday night witnessing downtown, I had encouragers, mockers and a couple of homeless people threaten me. The highlight of the night was Jimmy. He’s a homeless guy that listened to the whole message. When he first walked up, I said, “Do you have a question?” He replied, “No, I just want to listen.” So I walked over and talked to him afterwards and he said, “This is very edifying. This is just what I needed tonight.” [Read more…]

Seek And Save The Lost

Seek And Save The Lost

God brought to mind the name Seek and Save the Lost when I named this ministry toward the end of 2009. What really caught my attention is that it is biblical and I especially liked the seeking part. There’s something very comforting in knowing that Jesus is seeking the lost. But lately, God has the “save the lost” part standing out to me. Not only is Jesus a seeking God; He also is a saving God. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. The King James Version puts it this way:  For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). [Read more…]
