Am I Welcome At Your Church?

Ministry Updates for March 22, 2024 and March 15, 2024

Conner, Joshua, Michael and I witnessed downtown on Friday March 15, 2024. We were out there for about two and a half hours and mainly handed out tracts. Joshua got into a couple of conversations and I had a short one with one young man. But we spent most of the night talking to one guy. He was out trying to get signatures for a petition, but none of us wanted to sign it. He got into a conversation first off with Joshua, then Conner and myself and then kept bouncing back and forth between us. His main contention was that the Bible was written by men and his other burning question was, “Am I welcome at your church?”

Joshua engaged him first in a conversation. The young man wanted to know how the God of the Bible was the real one when there are so many gods out there. I think he said that he worships the Norse gods. He kept going down one rabbit hole after another. Conner also engaged him in a conversation, but he kept going back to these same things. Finally, I told him that I’m really out here talking about Jesus Christ and I started witnessing to him. That’s when he told us that he’s bisexual and lives with a man. He wanted to know if he’d be welcome to come to my church. I told him that he is welcome to come there. I will call the young man C. He said that he’d be there Sunday morning. Sadly, he didn’t show up.

I wanted to make sure that he didn’t misunderstand me, so I pointed out that God doesn’t approve of his lifestyle. The Bible doesn’t, I don’t and my church doesn’t. But everyone is welcome to worship at church.  Then he wanted to know where the Bible condemns homosexuality (not counting Leviticus). So I read to him Mark 10:6-9 where Jesus says that marriage is between a man and a woman. Conner directed him to Romans 1:18-32. Later on, we also had him read 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.

Written By Men

He kept going back to the Bible was just written by men. But the Bible was written by men that were inspired through the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21, 2 Timothy 3:16). I point out that we know the Bible is true because we see it time and time again when we are street witnessing. He kept denying God and the Bible, so I kept pointing him back to Romans 1:18 where he suppresses the truth in unrighteousness. At one point he said that he lost someone really close to him and that he begged God to show him a sign. He said even if the wind had blown, he would have counted it. But nothing. Then he brought up how God gave Gideon a sign three times. I gently reminded C that Jesus said an evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign (Matthew 12:39).

I told him that I was sorry that he lost someone close to him and that God didn’t comfort him through that time. I told C that I also lost someone close to me and I know it isn’t easy to go through. Then I asked him if I could pray for him and he said yes. We all gathered around him and I prayed for him and for his salvation. C told us that he grew up in a Christian home but was no longer a Christian. We pointed out to him that we don’t believe that he was ever truly a Christian because you can’t walk away from Jesus if you are truly saved because Jesus never leaves or forsakes us (Hebrews 13:5). Then I asked him if he had a Bible at home and he said no. I asked if he’d read it if we gave him one and he said yes. Michael quickly handed him a Bible.

We had C read Scripture several times after that. I told C that I was praying that he’d start reading the Bible that very night. He replied that I would have an unanswered prayer then if he didn’t read it. I pointed out to him that he was correct. That I would have an unanswered prayer, but that if he continues  rebelling against God, that he’d be the one who dies in his sins and would spend eternity in Hell. I pleaded with him to read Romans since we had quoted from there and then I encouraged him to go back and read the Gospels starting with Matthew. We hope and pray that he will read the Bible and that God will save him and his friend.

Hope I Go To Heaven

Friday the 22nd of March was quite windy and cold. Anand, Michael, Conner, one of his daughters and I witnessed downtown. We were handing out tracts and I handed them to a couple of Hispanic guys who said they live in Carthage. They wanted to know what I handed them and I told them, “They are Gospel tracts. They tell you about Jesus.” I asked if they know Jesus and the one wearing a cross said yes, they know Him. So then I asked them if they are saved and they both said yes. Then I asked if they are going to Heaven and one said yes, but the other one said, “I hope I go to Heaven.”

I told him that I wasn’t picking on him, but I wanted to know how hope gets you to Heaven. He shrugged his shoulders. His friend said that you get there by going to church. So I gently said, “I’m not picking on you either, but how does going to church get you to Heaven?” Then he replied that we get there by doing good. At that point, I asked them if they had kept the 10 Commandments. They both acknowledged that they had broken them. So you really can’t go to Heaven by being good since we’ve all sinned against God and we’ve all broken the 10 Commandments. At that point I shared the Gospel with them. I asked them both to read the tracts. They shook our hands and headed on their way.

Not long after that, Conner got into a conversation with another guy out trying to get petition signatures. This time it was for “Women’s Reproductive Healthcare”. Conner engaged him in a conversation. The young man kept talking about rape and abortion being necessary sometimes to save the life of a mother. Conner was the only one he talked to, so I didn’t interrupt. But I’ve heard several doctors say that they never once had to kill a baby in order to save the mother’s life. I would also point people to the Bible where Joseph’s wife Rachel, died during child birth (Genesis 35:16-19). God didn’t tell Joseph to kill Benjamin in order to save Rachel’s life. It’s very sad when a woman dies during childbirth, but murdering a child is never right. Michael got into a long conversation with an older gentleman. I didn’t get an update on that conversation, but we pray that God will save both men as well as others who received tracts.

Getting Away With It

Getting Away With It

Several years ago I heard that one half of all murderers in America are never caught. One half! This is a mind-blowing statistic. How can one half of all murders go unsolved? I just double checked and according to a CBS news article dated June 29, 2022, approximately half of all murders go unsolved. There’s more violent crime today and less police officers. So criminals are getting away with it, even getting away with murder.

But are they really getting away with it? Even if a murderer kills someone when the murderer is in their teens and they live to be 90 years old, they may think they’ve gotten away with murder for over 70 years. But they really haven’t gotten away with it. There is judgment to come. It’s appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). [Read more…]

There Is No Hope For Me

There Is No Hope For Me

Friday night, Conner, Joshua, Tyial and I witnessed downtown. Conner brought a message, Tyail held her sign and handed out tracts. Joshua and I handed out tracts. We really couldn’t get anyone to stop and talk to us. Joshua got into a couple of short conversations, but I think he was disappointed that they wouldn’t really stick around and talk. One girl walked past us three times and she mouthed off each time. The four of us walked to the square and around downtown, but there just weren’t many people out, even though it was a perfect night weather wise.

A woman and her friend walked by us at one point and they both refused tracts. She said, “I’m too bad. There is no hope for me. You won’t see me in Heaven.” We tried to get her to stop and talk to us, but she refused. The guy that was with her told us to let her go, that you won’t get anywhere with her. Over the years while street witnessing, I’ve seen two kinds of people that say they are too bad for Jesus to save them. Some people are sincerely broken over their sinfulness and truly believe that Jesus can’t save them. Obviously, they are wrong.

You can’t be so bad that God can’t save you. The apostle Paul persecuted Christians, even consenting to their being killed, before his conversion (Acts 22:1-16). Yes, we can prove biblically that there is hope for you when you think that you are too bad to be saved. A sinner is not so bad that God can’t save them. The second group are the ones like this young woman; they are proud of their sins and braggingly say they are so bad that God can’t save them. They are not humble in any way. God resist’s the proud, but He gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). So until the proud person is convicted over their sins and humbly comes to Jesus, they cannot be saved. Even though it was a slow night witnessing, the four of us had a good time of fellowship.

Are You Speaking In The Tongues Of The Devil?

Only God Can Judge Me

Are You Speaking In The Tongues Of The Devil?

Friday night before we started open air preaching, a woman and man walked by us. Trevor and Elly’s daughters tried to hand them tracks. The woman said no thank you twice, but in a mean tone. Trevor spoke up and said, “Jesus came to save sinners Ma’am and you are qualified. I am qualified. We are all qualified.” Then he mentioned that we need to trust Jesus to save us. The couple got about a half a block away and the woman turned around and said, “You are judging. You are being judgmental. Only God can judge me.” At that point I spoke up and said, “You’re right, God is going to judge you and that’s why we are out here warning you to flee from the wrath to come.”

I know some people think that we are too confrontational or too provocative, but we intend to be a little provocative. Too many people are spiritually sleep walking through life. Some people need to be jolted out of their comfort zone. Judgment Day is real and it will not be a joyful day for those who die outside of Jesus Christ. Toward the end of the night the same couple came walking past me. I was on the other side of the street at that point. I recognized them, but offered them tracts anyway. The man who didn’t say a word the first time around, looked right at me and said, “Are you speaking in the tongues of the devil?”

Are You Speaking In The Tongues Of The Devil?

Unpardonable Sin

I hate to admit it, but I got in the flesh over this one. The man riled me up. I told the man that he’s treading on dangerous ground. The religious leaders attributed Jesus’ miracles to the devil and Jesus said that was the unpardonable sin. I pleaded with the man to repent immediately and trust Jesus. The woman kept yelling back, “God bless you” and “God loves you.” I was loudly rebuking the man when a young couple walked toward me. I explained to them what the man had said and the young man said that he understood. Th young man wouldn’t take a tract, but the young woman did.

Trevor and I both brought messages and we both had mockers But there was a man in a convertible that drove by while we were open air preaching and he hollered “Amen!” Elly and her daughters held signs and handed out Gospel tracts and Matthew joined us and he too handed out tracts and held Trevor’s sign while Trevor was preaching.

Hopefully Heaven

I got a chance to talk to the homeless guy Jason. He took a tract and I asked him what happens after we die. He said, “Hopefully Heaven.” So I asked him how we get there and he said by being good. I gently pointed out that the Bible actually says the opposite, that none of us are good. That’s why we need Jesus. Christ Jesus is our only hope and we must come to him through repentance and faith. We actually have to realize that we are not good and turn to the One who is good.

(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share the Gospel with others. You do not have to be confrontational or provocative, but, please tell others about our Lord and Savior if you are a child of God)

Atrocious Act

Atrocious Act

On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2020, a 29 year-old killed his girlfriend and her 13 year-old son. The man also tried to kill the woman’s two daughters, ages 7 and 14, but they both survived the attack. This happened right here in Springfield, Missouri. This was a shocking crime in Southwest Missouri. But this horrendous crime pales in comparison to King Herod killing 2,000 boys that were 2 years old and younger in Bethlehem. Herod ordered the killings because he was trying to kill baby Jesus. Obviously, King Herod failed in his attempt, but he did succeed in his atrocious act of killing 2,000 precious little boys. He Is Lord Of All

He Is Lord Of All

Tonight, I want to talk to you about Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Not only did Jesus save me, He is Lord of my life. I’m grateful that Jesus bore God’s wrath over my sins as Jesus was beaten unmercifully for my sins. The Lord also drank the cup of God’s wrath, the same wrath that I deserved. Oh, I willingly bow my knee to King Jesus. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Yes, Jesus is worthy of all praise, honor and glory because He is lord of all. [Read more…]

Tonight, I want to talk about peace. Don’t you want peace? Wouldn’t you love to see world peace? Do you want peace in your home, at work, peace in your life? I should ask, do you have peace in your life? Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. He is the one who said “Peace be still.”  [Read more…]

Ministry Update September 25, 2016

On Friday nights we typically pray, sing hymns, preach and sing hymns to end the night. But last Friday we couldn’t even get started praying at first because people were coming up to us and asking us questions. We had four or five one on one conversations before we even prayed! Now that’s a nice “problem” to have.  [Read more…]

Legal Kill

September 24, 2011 by dennis@seekandsavethelost.com 2 Comments

It is illegal to murder someone in the United States of America (unless it is self-defense) and the same is true in most countries around the world. On the other hand, most “developed” countries in the world allow legalized abortions. We can’t kill someone in America unless it’s self-defense, but it is legal to kill a defenseless baby? We can’t legally kill a lot of animals, but we can kill an innocent baby? This makes no sense to me. [Read more…]
