Homeless Woman And Houseless Man

A Homeless Woman And A Houseless Man

I still can’t go out witnessing due to health issues, but I thank and praise God that some of my friends went out Friday night. Joshua, Lydia and Michael went witnessing downtown and they talked to a homeless woman and a houseless man. I must admit that I hadn’t heard the term houseless instead of homeless, so I googled it and found a video from a homeless “expert” that said it’s some of the homeless themselves that make the distinction. Their reasoning is that “home is where the heart is” is you have home wherever you are, but you can still be houseless. Again, I’d never heard this distinction before.

More importantly, here’s the update from Friday night from Michael’s own words, “Joshua, Lydia, and I went downtown last night. We came across a homeless lady named Nancy that we’ve met before. She took a Paul Washer booklet on the Gospel. We handed out some tracts and met a “houseless” (as he said, not homeless) man named John. We talked with him for awhile. He claimed Christ, but there doesn’t seem to be fruit. It was not an easy conversation. He had some knowledge of Scripture but mixed with some other ideas of his. We tried pointing him to Christ, though he didn’t seem to understand. But God is able to use that conversation. In the end, he took a Bible and some other things we gave him to read.” Again, praise God for Michael, Lydia and Joshua sharing the Gospel in downtown Springfield, MO on Friday night and may God save Nancy and John and may the Lord bless the other tracts that were handed out.

Another Corner

Another Corner

Ministry Update February 5, 2023

It was a real blessing to witness Friday night. Joshua brought Lydia with him and Anand came out again with Michael and it was great to have Matthew join us again. The street and sidewalk are still torn up near our normal witnessing spot. So after I brought a short message, we all walked around downtown handing out tracts. It was slow near the square, but there seemed to be more people passing by at another corner. We ended up witnessing at the corner of South and Walnut.

We were handing out tracts there and as a couple of guys walked past us, I asked, “Do you know Jesus?” The guy named William turned back around and said that he did. But they kept walking past me. Joshua was around the corner and I don’t know what he said to Cory, the young man with William, but he stopped and engaged in a conversation with him. Joshua was talking to both of them at first, but then Michael started talking to William while Joshua continued talking to Cory. They ended up having a long conversation and from what I heard, William may not know the Lord after all. But Michael was able to share truth with him.

While Joshua and Michael were witnessing, the rest of us had fellowship together while we handed out tracts. After a little while, a homeless guy named Dave started talking to Joshua. Joshua’s church had prepared a few blessing bags for homeless people. Joshua gave Dave a blessing bag, but it turned out that Dave needed a sleeping bag too. Joshua had one in his car, so he went back to his car and grabbed it and gave it to Dave. The homeless man said that he didn’t get drunk or get high. He appeared to be sober and it sounded like Dave is a true believer. After we finished witnessing, I was walking to my car and a gentleman stopped me and asked I was part of the group witnessing on the corner. He wanted to know what church we were with and I told him that we attend various churches. We are just out sharing the Gospel together. He thanked me and encouraged us to keep on witnessing.

Why Did You Refuse A Tract?

Non-Religious Person Takes A Tract

Why Did You Refuse A Tract?

Friday night was such a blessing to witness downtown with Chase, Austin, Joshua, Conner and his two kids, Michael and Matthew. At one point I tried to hand a tract to a young girl and she refused it and said no thank you. I normally don’t do this, but I asked, “Why did you refuse a tract?” She replied, “I’m not a religious person.” I told her the tract was for non-religious people. She looked quite surprised and took the tract. I hope and pray that she reads it. [Read more…]

Are You Speaking In The Tongues Of The Devil?

Only God Can Judge Me

Are You Speaking In The Tongues Of The Devil?

Friday night before we started open air preaching, a woman and man walked by us. Trevor and Elly’s daughters tried to hand them tracks. The woman said no thank you twice, but in a mean tone. Trevor spoke up and said, “Jesus came to save sinners Ma’am and you are qualified. I am qualified. We are all qualified.” Then he mentioned that we need to trust Jesus to save us. The couple got about a half a block away and the woman turned around and said, “You are judging. You are being judgmental. Only God can judge me.” At that point I spoke up and said, “You’re right, God is going to judge you and that’s why we are out here warning you to flee from the wrath to come.”

I know some people think that we are too confrontational or too provocative, but we intend to be a little provocative. Too many people are spiritually sleep walking through life. Some people need to be jolted out of their comfort zone. Judgment Day is real and it will not be a joyful day for those who die outside of Jesus Christ. Toward the end of the night the same couple came walking past me. I was on the other side of the street at that point. I recognized them, but offered them tracts anyway. The man who didn’t say a word the first time around, looked right at me and said, “Are you speaking in the tongues of the devil?”

Are You Speaking In The Tongues Of The Devil?

Unpardonable Sin

I hate to admit it, but I got in the flesh over this one. The man riled me up. I told the man that he’s treading on dangerous ground. The religious leaders attributed Jesus’ miracles to the devil and Jesus said that was the unpardonable sin. I pleaded with the man to repent immediately and trust Jesus. The woman kept yelling back, “God bless you” and “God loves you.” I was loudly rebuking the man when a young couple walked toward me. I explained to them what the man had said and the young man said that he understood. Th young man wouldn’t take a tract, but the young woman did.

Trevor and I both brought messages and we both had mockers But there was a man in a convertible that drove by while we were open air preaching and he hollered “Amen!” Elly and her daughters held signs and handed out Gospel tracts and Matthew joined us and he too handed out tracts and held Trevor’s sign while Trevor was preaching.

Hopefully Heaven

I got a chance to talk to the homeless guy Jason. He took a tract and I asked him what happens after we die. He said, “Hopefully Heaven.” So I asked him how we get there and he said by being good. I gently pointed out that the Bible actually says the opposite, that none of us are good. That’s why we need Jesus. Christ Jesus is our only hope and we must come to him through repentance and faith. We actually have to realize that we are not good and turn to the One who is good.

(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share the Gospel with others. You do not have to be confrontational or provocative, but, please tell others about our Lord and Savior if you are a child of God)

Guy That Said “I’m Already Going To Hell”

I’m Already Going To Hell

Ministry Update July 17, 2022

We praise God that there were 11 of us witnessing downtown Friday night. There were several mockers, including one guy that yelled “Abort babies” even before we started open air preaching. Others yelled things, revved their engines or honked their horns to disrupt the preaching of the Gospel. We walk by and drive by mockers. The walk by mocker yelled, “Love is love.” One guy walked by me with two little kids and he refused a tract. As he walked on past me he turned around and said “I’m already going to Hell.” I said “Yes you are and that’s the point, we don’t want you to die in your sins and go to Hell. Instead, we want you to repent and trust Jesus”. He just kept on walking.

Matthew Witnessing To Some Homeless People

Conner and Trevor brought messages after I brought a short one. But the night was mainly about conversations and we praise God for that. I believe as the apostle Paul said, by all means save some (1 Corinthians 9:22). So I believe in open air preaching, holding signs and handing out tracts. But I also believe that the real field work is in one to one conversations and there were plenty of those. Matthew got there before anyone else and he walked over to 6 or 8 homeless people that were about a half a block away from our witnessing spot. I think he literally spoke to each and every one of them over the next two hours. We praise God for that! [Read more…]

Night Full of Encouragement

Ministry Update July 25, 2021

Friday night witnessing downtown was a very encouraging night. Pastor Mike came out with us for the first time, so he was nervous. Keven and I hadn’t been out for about six months. We didn’t have God’s favor or unction during that time, so we didn’t go witnessing. (Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain Psalm 127:1). So even though it was Pastor Mike’s first time street witnessing and Keven and I hadn’t been out for a really long time, it turned out to be a night full of encouragement. [Read more…]

Homeless Guy Asked For A Bible

Homeless Guy Asked For A Bible

Ministry Update November 1, 2020

The weather was great Friday night. Conner and I both brought messages and Keven joined us later to help hand out Gospel tracts. I don’t remember having any mockers. Conner had a couple of them. It was great having Keven join us. He handed out tracts caddie-corner from Conner and I. While Conner was open-air preaching, a homeless guy came up to me and asked for a Bible. I gladly handed him one. Conner, Keven and I had a great time visiting when we weren’t handing out tracts.

One Bicycle Mocker On A Rainy Day

It wasn’t raining when I drove to Missouri State University on Wednesday and didn’t start raining until I started open-air preaching. The wind was cold and students didn’t want to stop and talk. So I just brought a message that day. About half-way through a student rode by on is bicycle and mouthed off as he went by. I was pleading with students to turn from their sins and turn to Christ. So I just continued pleading with students and said, “Don’t continue mocking God whether you do so verbally out loud like the guy on the bicycle just did or if you are mocking God with your life – by your words and your actions.” Also pleaded with students to not reject such a great salvation. The salvation that is found in Jesus Christ alone.

(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus with others. The results are up to God. Salvation is of the Lord. He calls us to share the Gospel with others. Jesus told us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature – Mark 16:15. Yes, all believers are to share the Gospel. Christian are you being obedient to Christ? Don’t know what to say or do? Buy some Gospel tracts. I recommend Living Waters and Chapel Library. Just walk up to someone offer a tract and say, “Did you get one of these?” By not asking a yes or no question, you have a better chance of someone actually taking one. But whether they accept or reject, salvation is of the Lord. Keep offering tracts, no matter how many rejections you receive. May Jesus Christ our Lord be glorified above all else.)

Homeless Guy Reading A New Testament

Didn’t Preach

Ministry Update August 9, 2020

I didn’t preach on Friday night even though I had prepared a message. My heart just wasn’t right with God and with others. I would have been a hypocrite if I had open-air preached, so instead, I handed out New Testaments. The first lady I handed one to in the parking lot took one and the second person looked homeless, but he gladly took one too. A few minutes later he could be seen reading the New Testament. A couple I know told me they already had Bibles and other people said the same thing. One gentleman thanked me for handing out Bibles.

Other people took them throughout the night while I walked around downtown. One guy refused one, but the woman that was with him took one. (I’m always glad when this happens because many times when the first person says no, the other people with them also say no. I guess it’s just human nature). May God bless the New Testaments and may He prompt people to read them and may the Lord save lost souls.

Kelly Open-Air Preaching

Blessed Night

Ministry Update June 21, 2020

Kelly and I had a blessed night of witnessing. It started off slow, but picked up later on. A college student named Tia took a Gospel tract from us as she walked her dog. Kelly asked about her dog and that led to a conversation. The young lady says that she is a Christian. We asked her to read the tract and pass it on to someone else and she said that she would. I brought the first message and had mocker right of the bat. He walked out of a convenience store heading the other direction, but turned around and cussed real loud. A couple of cowboys were walking near us and the first one said, “just ignore him” to which I said “Amen” and the second one stopped and shook my hand. [Read more…]

Encouraging Student Said “Amen”

Life Is Precious

Ministry Update September 15, 2019

I brought a message on Wednesday at Missouri State University about how life is precious and God makes all of us in His very image. I pleaded with young women that if they find themselves pregnant this year to not kill the baby and I also pleaded with young men to not coerce women into having an abortion if they get a young woman pregnant. You don’t add sin upon sin and you don’t murder a child; that is an abomination to Almighty God. Surprisingly, I had two encouragers while bringing the message. A man walked behind me and encouraged me to keep going. A short while later a student walked past me, turned around and said Amen. [Read more…]
