Yet Jesus Saves Us Anyway

Ministry Update November 29, 2020

Friday night, there were two young men that mocked the open-air preaching as they walked away. Right after that, a couple crossed the street to the left of me and the woman mocked as they crossed. I don’t know if she felt more emboldened because of the other mockers or if she still would have done so even if they weren’t around. But I’ve seen it many times before where people are more bold in mocking when they see others or join in when others are mocking. I think it’s just a mob mentality sort of thing. But the comment of the night wasn’t from a mocker. No, it was from a young man that was walking his dog and when he got right in front of me he said, “Yet Jesus saves us anyway.”

I had just quoted Matthew 7:13-14 where Jesus says “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Jesus says that many are headed for Hell and few are headed for Heaven. This was the point I was making and I was pleading with people to come to Jesus. This is when the young man said, “Yet Jesus saves us anyway.” So I pointed out to him that there is not universal salvation. We must come to Jesus His way – through repentance and faith. Unfortunately, the young man kept walking his dog, so I didn’t get a chance to talk to him further.

After I finished the message, I told Keven that I heard music and wondered if something was going on at the square. We grabbed some Gospel tracts and headed that direction. Before we got there, we realized that one of the bars had a live performer and they had an amplifier outside the bar. That was where the music was coming from. When we got the square, it was empty. So we walked about a 2 block area downtown and handed out tracts while we had a great discussion about Judas (who betrayed Jesus).

Wednesday was the day before Thanksgiving, so there weren’t any classes at MSU.

What’s Your Opinion On Homosexuality?

What’s Your Opinion On Homosexuality?

Ministry Update January 19, 2020

I was wrapping up open-air preaching at Missouri State University on Wednesday when a student walked up and asked, “What’s your opinion on homosexuality?” My reply was, “It doesn’t matter what my opinion is. The Bible is very clear on it and it’s a sin. First Corinthians 6:9-10 covers this and it’s not just the sin of homosexuality, it covers sexual relations outside of marriage, adultery, drunkards, thieves, idolaters. Every single person on earth falls into at least one of these categories.” [Read more…]

Brady Open-Air Preaching

Labor Of Love

Ministry Update July 21, 2019

My wife and I were on vacation this week, but on Saturday July 13, 2019, I had the privilege of witnessing with Brady, his wife Trish, Shane, Gerald, his wife and son and a young lady that was with their group. We did street evangelism at Bricktown in Oklahoma City and it was a real labor of love. It was a joy and honor to labor for the Lord with these evangelists in Oklahoma City. [Read more…]

I Gotta Stop With The Devils Lettuce

Ministry Update April 7, 2019

With these updates, many times I say what a blessed night we had witnessing downtown, and Friday night was no exception. I say this frequently because it is true. Every night is different and we never know what we are going to see and hear. Friday night we were blessed with several encouragers, several mockers and a great conversation at the end. The best line of the night was “I gotta stop with the devil’s lettuce.” [Read more…]

Nearly Deserted Campus

Ministry Update January 13, 2018

Missouri State University is currently offering Winter Intersession classes. These are typically one to three week classes offered during Christmas break and they must be intense. It is my understanding that the students have to cover the same amount of material that they would in a regular semester class. It’s been several years since I’ve witnessed at MSU during one of these intersession class times and I found the campus nearly deserted.  [Read more…]

Merry Christmas!

Ministry Update December 16, 2018

I looked at the bell tower at MSU on Wednesday and it reminded me of the Christmas Song: I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day. Well, it wasn’t Christmas day and the bells didn’t toll like they normally do on Wednesdays. It was finals week so instead of bringing a message, I handed out Gospel tracts and said Merry Christmas! several hundred times. Merry Christmas! After saying this, sometimes students would take a tract, even after they initially were shaking their head no and getting ready to refuse one. But Merry Christmas! seemed to disarm some of the students. Others still said no to the tracts, but I still said Merry Christmas to them anyway.  [Read more…]

Most Of The Laborers At The Christmas Parade Outreach

Forty Laborers!

Ministry Update December 9, 2018

There were forty laborers from Crossway Baptist Church handing out tracts at the Springfield Christmas parade on Saturday. Originally the weather forecasters were predicting one to three inches of snow. But praise God, that didn’t happen and we handed out thousands of Gospel tracts. Greg led the outreach and I think in the past we may have had around 15 or 16 people witnessing at one St. Patrick’s Day Parade, but praise God, this time there were forty of us! [Read more…]

Tracts And Interesting Conversations

Ministry Update May 20, 2018

Since this was finals week at Missouri State University, I decided to hand out Gospel tracts and not open-air preach on Wednesday. I prayed and hoped that 200 students would take tracts and they did. Praise God for that and may the Lord bless and multiply the tracts. It was fun doing something a little different. I had a blessed lunch hour handing out tracts and had some interesting conversations.  [Read more…]

Love And Honor My Wife

Love And Honor My Wife

Ministry Update January 21, 2018

I love and honor my wife. Yes, I am the spiritual leader of our home, but that doesn’t mean that I run roughshod over my godly wife. The apostle Paul said a man is to love his wife as Jesus loved the church (Ephesians 5:25). How did Jesus love the church? He died for us true believers! The reason I’m pointing this out is because my precious wife requests that I don’t do open-air preaching downtown on Friday nights when I’m by myself. (Sometimes my wife comes out with me, but we drove 14 hours back from Michigan on Thursday and she only had four hours sleep. So obviously I didn’t ask her to go downtown with me). Friday night, my ministry partners couldn’t make it, so I was witnessing on my own. Because I love and honor my wife, I didn’t open-air preach. Instead, I handed out Gospel tracts.  [Read more…]

Preaching To The Choir

Preaching To The Choir

Ministry Update November 12, 2017

Friday night Conner and I witnessed downtown. North Point Church had a special event at the Gillioz Theater across the street from us. The event was called The Gathering that I’ve been told they do a couple of times a year. I think the theater holds close to a thousand people and there appeared to be hundreds of people coming out when the event when it was over. So we had a larger crowd than most Friday nights and I’m sure most people walking past us thought we were preaching to the choir. But that’s alright, the choir needs to hear the Gospel too.  [Read more…]
