Super Bowl Outreach 2017 Update
God Answered Prayers!
This update is about 100 evangelists from around the country converging on Houston, Texas for Super Bowl weekend and how God answered five months of prayers for the outreach. We believe three people got saved, one person was delivered out of a cult, thousands of Gospel tracts were handed out, several Bibles were handed out and many one to one conversations took place.
But the main focus is on God and how He answered our prayers. We prayed for five months that the weather would be good. (People don’t generally stand around and talk in the rain and it’s hard to hand out soggy tracts). One week before the Super Bowl, they were predicting 60% chance of rain. It didn’t rain Friday or Saturday and only sprinkled a little bit on Sunday for 20 or 30 minutes. God answered that prayer! We also prayed that the city officials wouldn’t stick us in a “free speech zone” because they are usually blocks away from the activity. God answered that prayer!
More Prayers Answered!
We prayed for the law enforcement officers; that God would protect them and that they would see we are for them and not against them. All of the groups had great favor with the police. We thanked many of them when we walked by, shook their hands if we had the chance and also let them know that we had been praying for them. God answered that prayer!
The team leaders and the organizers prayed that we would have favor with the crowds and we did. God answered that prayer! We prayed for safety getting to, during and getting back home from the outreach. God answered that prayer! Our main prayer was that God would be glorified above all else and I believe He was. God also answered that prayer.
God Is Mighty To Save!
I want to describe a couple of the encounters where people put their trust in Christ. (I only heard about the third one right before we the outreach was over, so I didn’t get any details except the guy was convicted over his sins). The first person saved at the outreach was Matthew. I had dropped my guys off at our spot and went to park the van. Other team leaders were parking too and the spaces were very narrow, so we helped each other park the vans. It was probably 30 minutes before I got back to my team.
At that moment, no one was on the box, so I jumped up and started bringing a message. It wasn’t long before the young man Matthew stopped to listen. Allen was holding Frank’s cross that says Are You Ready? So Allen asked the young man “Are you ready?” To which Matthew replied “No, I’m not.”
So Allen started sharing the Gospel with him. Then Aaron joined them and they had a long conversation. Matthew said that he wanted to surrender his life to Jesus. He said that he wanted to stay and hand out tracts, but he had to get to work. Aaron asked him if he needed a Bible and he said that he didn’t need one, because he had one on the dash of his car!
I’m sharing this for the glory of God. We prayed for five months that God would already start working on people that we would encounter at the Super Bowl Outreach. How many lost people do you know that drive around with a Bible on their dashboard? I don’t of a single one. God was already working on Matthew way before he encountered our team. God really answered our prayer!
The second person that surrendered her life to Jesus was Paige. Here’s Pastor Stanley’s report: Please please pray for Paige. She stopped to talk when I was preaching and I thought she was just mocking. We ended up having a great conversation and I firmly believe God may have saved her right here on the street. Please pray that God would do a miracle in her heart! Thank you saints. Another prayer answered by God!
Filthy T-Shirt Sellers
There are too many stories to share them all, but I want to share a few more. Saturday night half of our team was on one side of the street and the other half of us were on the other side. Dave and I were handing out tracts right in front of the entrance to the park where many people were coming and going. Since I hadn’t spent much time with Aaron U. and Brian, I decided to walk down the sidewalk and witness with them. About the time I arrived, Aaron was already there handing out tracts, but he was tired of the two guys selling filthy t-shirts in front of them. So he started preaching against them.
They really didn’t like that. He preached hard against them and it dramatically affected their sales in a negative way. But they were so prideful that they wouldn’t move. So I joined him and preached against the other guy. When people stopped to buy their f-Trump shirts and the other disgusting shirts, I quoted Romans 1:18: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.
The saddest thing was one woman walked by holding her young daughter’s hand and I pleaded with her to protect her young daughter from that filth. The mother turned around and flipped me off. I kept pleading, the next time the grandmother turned around and flipped me off. Without God’s intervention, this young girl doesn’t stand a chance. So I told the little girl that Jesus loves her and for her to trust Jesus when she gets older.
On Sunday we were outside Gate 6 at NRG Stadium with Brad and his team. Allen and I were near the crosswalk across from the gate handing out tracts. Another heart wrenching encounter was I gave tracts to two young boys that walked by. When their dad realized that they took them, he jerked their arms, yelled at them and threw the Gospel tracts on the ground. It’s one thing if people want to die in their sins and go to Hell, but to keep their children from hearing God’s truth, is really evil and heartbreaking.
Fake Faith Healers
Lucas and Aaron went about a block away and started preaching. It turned out some fake faith healers were preaching across the street from them and when Aaron realized that they were trying to heal a guy who was limping and walking with a cane, so he went over to record it. After they prayed, they asked the guy if he was healed and he said yes. He walked away still limping and using his cane. So Aaron followed him for a block or two and caught up with the man and asked him if he was healed. The man admitted that he hadn’t been healed.
Then Aaron took the video back and showed it to the “faith healers” and one of them got so mad that he shoved Aaron real hard. The same guy was getting ready to preach. Aaron confronted the leader and said your guy should repent and apologize to me and you shouldn’t let him get up and preach before he gets right with God. The leader did stop the guy and I guess he gave a weak apology to Aaron.
This whole time a new Christian had just started going to church with these guys and he saw everything that happened and realized that they weren’t biblically based. So he followed Aaron back across the street and had a really long discussion with him and he said that he was going to leave that church. Aaron followed up with him to give him a couple of options for biblically sound churches in Houston.
Jesus Turned My Life Around 180 Degrees
My favorite encounter on Super Bowl Sunday was with Miriam. She’s 77 years old and a foreigner. When she walked by, I handed her a tract and she took it. Then she stopped and pointed to it and asked me in broken English what it said. I told her that it was a Gospel tract that tells about Jesus. She smiled real big; pointed to herself and said Jesus lives inside me. Then she explained that when Jesus came inside her, that He turned her life around 180 degrees. I said Amen! I believe Miriam is a true believer and I will see her again one day in Heaven.
If you are reading this update and Jesus has not turned your life around 180 degrees, I hope one day that He will do so. My hope and prayer is that God will convict you over your sins and that He will reveal His Holiness to you. That God will open your eyes to the one and only Savior – Jesus Christ. Jesus is the perfect, sinless Son of God who took the punishment that we deserve.
He never sinned one time, yet He died on the cross for the sins of the world, bearing God’s anger over sin as He hung there. Jesus rose victoriously from the grave and God offers eternal life to each and every person who repents and puts their trust in Jesus. May God grant you repentance and faith in Jesus if you are an unbeliever and then you can join Miriam and I and say that Jesus also turned your life around 180 degrees. I hope and pray this for the glory of God.
Bold Gospel Preaching Open-Air Preachers
God has raised up some bold, Gospel preaching open-air preachers and it was a pleasure serving the Lord at the Super Bowl Outreach Aaron, Brian, Allen, Aaron, Frank, Eric, Mark, Dave and Nick. We also had a great time witnessing with Brad’s team on Sunday outside NRG Stadium. We thank Bill and Jason for coordinating the outreach. Fellowshipping with 100 evangelists from around the country for three days was a little taste of Heaven on earth. To God be the glory!

Dear brother, you would have loved it. Sweet fellowship, wonderful teaching by Pastor Dykstra, Dr. Rankin and Dr. Gonzales in addition to the actual witnessing. The Lord was so gracious to answer every single prayer! We serve an awesome God!
