Storing Up More Wrath Against The Day of Wrath
Ministry Update May 21, 2017
Friday night we witnessed several people that are storing up more wrath against the day of wrath (Romans 2:5). Aaron, Serenity, Elise, Desi and I sang a couple of hymns to start the night. I was the first one downtown, so I handed out tracts until everyone else got there. I gave a tract to a guy that walked by and he promptly walked over to the trash can and threw it in. So I kind of suspected it might be one of those nights, right off the bat.
After we sang, I brought a message about secret sins called What’s Your Secret? I had a couple of walk by mockers but mainly it was drive by mockers. People yelling Praise Jesus, Repent, Hail Satan and too many other things to remember them all. One kid was mocking me for reading Bible verses. He said any of us can read the Bible. I said yes you can, but do you obey it?
You Can Read The Bible, But Do You?
He obviously doesn’t, so I told him that he needed to repent and trust Jesus. But the other mockers, no matter what they said, I just replied God bless you or have a good night. After I finished up Aaron started preaching. Two young men walked by and the one said to me “that was uncalled for what the last group yelled out the car window.” He shook my hand and thanked us for being out there. I offered him and his friend tracts and they both took them.
About as soon as Aaron started preaching from Jeremiah (ironically about how God pleaded with the Israelites, but they would not listen and they would not turn from their sins – much like America today) and a couple of people started dancing and mocking across the street. It turned out there were actually three of them. They came over and one of them kept trying to interrupt Aaron, but he kept preaching. So they guy came over and started talking to me. He said something squirrelly like he worships Tom Cruise.
Church Of Scientology
So, I asked him if he’s a member of the Church of Scientology and he said no. Later on he wanted to know why we feel the need to share what we believe with everyone. I told him because Jesus commanded us to in Mark 16:15. I quoted him the verse and he wanted to know what it says so I repeated it. Then he wanted to know why we couldn’t just let everyone have a good time, because that’s all they want. I told him people do want to have a good time and they will have a good time, all the way to Hell, but there are no good times in Hell.
The third guy ran back across the street, but the woman stood right in front of Aaron bragging that she’s a lesbian. She wanted him to read her shirt. I really couldn’t read it from where I was standing so I don’t know what it says. She started saying Hail Satan and other things. The woman stood there mocking Aaron for quite a while. Then he told her to go ahead and smile now because there are no smiles in Hell.
Singing Mockers
We finished the night singing hymns and right when we were finished, the man that talked to me and the woman that mocked Aaron came running up to us and she was playing a banjo and singing real loud. They both followed us about half way to our vehicles before they stopped. Right before Aaron finished up a few people walked by and kept saying “you need to smoke weed.”
Two of them walked on, but as Aaron was preaching, the guy kept yelling, “smoke a blunt.” No matter what Aaron preached, the guy kept yelling the same thing over and over again. I pointed out earlier when I was preaching that the mockers aren’t really mocking us, they are mocking God. The really sad thing is they are just storing up more wrath against the day of wrath. Obviously, they don’t believe that Judgment Day is real, but it is. The Bible is very clear about this. I wouldn’t want to be any of these poor deceived souls on that great and terrible day of the Lord.
Two Students In One Class Committed Suicide This Year
Two or three weeks ago, Brian and I were witnessing at MSU and a young lady came up and told us that we are witnessing wrong. She started off talking to me. I asked her how she would witness to me if I was a lost person. She kept telling me that Jesus loves me and that He will make me happy. I told her that I was a successful businessman and that it was great that she believed, but I wasn’t looking for anything else.
So again I asked her why should I trust Jesus? She pretty much repeated the same thing and so did I. Then I asked her how she would convince me after that and she said at that point she would pray with me. (If I really were an atheist and a successful businessman, I wouldn’t want a Christian praying with or for me). About that time she moved on and started talking to Brian. He was very kind and gentle and listened to her.
Jesus Instead Of Suicide
I’m pointing this out because Brian brought a great message last Wednesday about what the student told him, which was she had two students in one class that committed suicide. Brian couldn’t get that out of his mind so he preached about how desperate and hopeless someone is who reaches that level. He also pointed out that there is only hope in Jesus Christ alone. Then Aaron preached after that and he also kept the theme of suicide in his message. They both did a great job of pointing students to Jesus as the only hope of mankind.
The Lord didn’t lay a message on my heart, so I handed out tracts. I gave out 100 Chapel Library Tracts – Are You Born Again by J.C. Ryle. They went surprisingly well and then I handed out about another 100 Seek and Save the Lost tracts. The students had finals that day so they weren’t inclined to stick around. Wednesday was our last time at the campus until they start back again in August. Oh may God convict and convert students over the summer. May He compel them to read the Bible, seek Him, ask true followers of Jesus questions. May God continue watering the seeds that were planted this school year.
