Still Had Mockers On A Slow Night
Ministry Update December 23, 2018
Pastor Joshua, Conner and I witnessed downtown Friday night and it was a really slow night. We suspected it would be when we pulled up and the parking lot we normally park in (or at least try to park in most Friday nights) was nearly empty. It turned out to be a slow as we suspected. In fact it was so slow, that Conner walked around the block by the square just to see if anything else was going on. Since there wasn’t, he came back to our normal spot. But we still had mockers on a slow night.
I brought the first message and one woman in a red car slowed down to mock the preaching as she drove by. I just suggested that she have a good night. Then a large group walked by us across the street. They didn’t say much, but one guy stopped to take pictures or record a little bit. Then Pastor Joshua preached after me. As he was sharing truth, a couple walked across the parking lot across from us. The guy started mocking Pastor Joshua, but admittedly he wasn’t a very good mocker. We couldn’t hear what he was saying and I’m not sure Pastor Joshua even noticed him, so he kept on preaching.
Young Man Intrigued By Open-Air Preaching
We handed out some tracts. Most people were pleasant and more took tracts than refused them. One young man named Elijah took a tract from me and he was quite intrigued as he watched Pastor Joshua open-air preaching. Elijah walked back by us later on and he wanted to know why we were out here on such a cold night (It was 33 degrees). I told him that we are out here every Friday night. The I asked him if he died tonight, where would he go? He said Heaven.
Then I said what are you counting on and he answered the blood of the Lamb. I like to share the Gospel with people even when they say the right answers because you can have head knowledge about salvation and still not be saved. Again, he responded with the right answers, but you never know. Interestingly, he told me before our conversation ended that he goes to the same church I belong to. After that, Conner, Pastor Joshua and I swapped George Whitefield and Charles Spurgeon stories to end the night.
Sharing About The Birth Of Jesus
Earlier on Monday, I shared about the birth of Jesus at a busy corner in front of Hobby Lobby. (No, I wasn’t protesting Hobby Lobby. They are a great company.) I witnessed there because it is a busy corner that’s also a popular entrance to the mall. Thankfully it was a great day. It was about 50 degrees and many cars drove by with their windows cracked open. I only had one drive by mocker and many thumbs up, waves, smiles and supporters honking their horn.
People were listening to the birth of Jesus, His sinless life, sacrificial death on the cross, rising from the grave and the salvation found in Christ alone through repentance and faith. I know they were listening because more than once a car in the turn lane wouldn’t move until cars behind them honked that the light had changed. There was also a young man on a bicycle that listened intently as he sat at two different corners, waiting on the light to change. Since it was a busy corner, I also held a sign that said repent and believe the Gospel on one side and Jesus came to save His people from their sins on the other side.
(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share the Gospel with others. Especially here at Christmas time when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior is a great time to tell others how the Lord has transformed your life)
