Sorry The Chiefs Are Not In The Super Bowl
I have always been a Kansas City Chiefs fan and it’s been a really long time since they made it as far as they did this year in the playoffs. I was only six years old when the Chiefs won Super Bowl IV in 1970. So I was sorely disappointed when the Chiefs lost the AFC Championship game to the Patriots. I am sorry the Chiefs are not in the Super Bowl.
But my friends and I (nearly 100 of us) from around the country are here to share the Gospel at the Super Bowl and at various events leading up to the Super Bowl, regardless of the teams that are playing. You see, we committed to come here and evangelize Friday, Saturday and Sunday because we love the Lord. We love God because He first loved us and saved us. He granted us repentance and faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Yes, I’m disappointed the Chiefs aren’t in the Super Bowl, but I don’t worship the Kansas City Chiefs. Sports are not all consuming for me. I didn’t lose any sleep Sunday night January 20, 2019 because the Chiefs lost the AFC Championship game. I am sorry the Chiefs are not in the Super Bowl, but that didn’t stop me from coming here to share the Gospel.
Who Or What Do You Worship?
So I ask those of you walking by today, who or what do you idolize? Who or what do you worship? Do you worship the Rams or the Patriots? A few years ago, there was a New England Patriot fan that had a sign that read Our god is an awesome god and his name is Tom Brady.
That is blasphemous! It is idol worship. That is a case of one man worshipping another man. One created being worshiping another created being. Attributing praise, worship and adoration that should be toward the one true God that is foolishly being bestowed upon a mere mortal. This is utter foolishness and nonsense, yet it might very well describe you today if you idolize football players.
He hews down cedars, and takes the cypress and the oak, which he strengthens for himself among the trees of the forest: he plants an ash, and the rain does nourish it. Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindles it, and bakes bread; yea, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes it a graven image, and falls down thereto.
He burns part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eats meat; he roasts roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warms himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: And the residue thereof he makes a god, even his graven image: he falls down unto it, and worships it, and prays unto it, and says, Deliver me; for you are my god (Isaiah 44:14-17).
Idol Worship Is Nothing New
Worshiping idols is nothing new. Disobeying God is nothing new. Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden and each and every one of us have sinned since then. We’ve all gone our own way (at one time or another). For there is not a just man upon earth, that does good, and sins not (Ecclesiastes 7:20).
Is football your idol today? Is your favorite football player an idol? Who or what has your heart? What do you spend your time, talents and treasure on? Whatever you spend your time, money and talent on is what has your heart. Do you love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength? If not, what is your false god?
What consumes your thoughts? I’m sorry the chiefs are not in the Super Bowl, but I’m not losing any sleep over it. Football does not consume me. It is not my passion. It’s not what I spend my time and money on. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun to watch and I like it when the Chiefs win, but they are far from being my all in all.
Jesus Is My All In All
My friends and I are out here sharing the Gospel because Jesus is our all in all. Jesus is Lord of all and we have repented from our sins and surrendered our lives to our Lord. Yes, it cost us time to come here. Many of us had to take off work for a few days to make this trip. Yes, it cost us real money to come to this outreach. It also took time to prepare for the messages. We’ve also been praying for this outreach for several months.
The reason I’m bringing up these questions is because nothing is more important than your eternal soul. You will spend eternity in Heaven or Hell after you die, whether you believe this or not. Pleading ignorance on Judgment Day is no excuse. If you died today, would you go to Heaven or Hell? Heaven you say? Are you sure? If this is your answer, what are you counting on to get there?
Good works cannot save you. Your very best is as filthy rags to God who is Holy and righteous. You cannot earn salvation. It is the free gift from God. Salvation is of the Lord and you cannot earn it. You cannot work your way to Heaven. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).
What Are You Counting On To Get To Heaven?
So again, I ask, what are you counting on if you think you are going to Heaven after you die? Please listen to what Jesus said in Mathew 7:21-22: Not everyone that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out demons? and in your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity (or you lawless ones). Do not be deceived today, the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Jesus said there will be false converts – those who profess to be Christians, but they don’t obey God. Again, you cannot earn salvation, but a saved life is a changed life. No change since you came to Christ, then somehow you missed Him. Jesus also said if you love Me, keep my commandments (John 14:15). Who or what has your heart today? If you are a professing Christian, are you sure of your salvation? Has God taken away your heart of stone and given you a heart of flesh?
Are You In The Faith?
Examine yourself and see if you are truly in the faith. The Scriptures cannot be broken. In other words, God does not contradict Himself. No matter what society calls the right side of history, it is what God says that matters. God calls sin, sin. He also never changes. So again, I plead with you to see if you are in the faith or not.
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
My friends and I are no better than anyone else. We have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. But I ask you sincerely today, is your pet sin on this list that I just quoted? Will you admit today that you are sinner? We are looking for those who admit that they’ve sinned, that they have rebelled against Almighty God. You see, there is hope for a man that sincerely confesses his sins. We are to confess and forsake our sins. But those who won’t admit it, I have no hope for you today, no words of encouragement.
You Cannot Save Yourself
Oh, but if you recognize that you are a sinner that cannot save himself and God has revealed His Holiness to you, then there is hope. There is hope in Jesus Christ. Please listen to how the apostle Paul continues in 1 Corinthians 6:11 after he relates the list of prevalent sins that so easily ensnares people: And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Did you catch that? Paul says Such WERE Some Of You! Yes, we’ve all sinned against God. But when you repent from your sins and surrender your life fully and completely to Jesus, you are no longer the same. You are washed, sanctified and justified in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. It’s not by our own power that we are changed, it is through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Salvation is of the Lord. Salvation belongs unto the Lord: your blessing is upon your people. Selah (Psalm 3:8). But I will sacrifice unto you with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 2:9). Truly my soul waits upon God: from him comes my salvation (Psalm 62:1).
God Draws Lost Souls To Himself
You can’t come to Jesus unless God the Father draws you. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, comes unto me.
Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say unto you, He that believes on me hath everlasting life (John 6:44-47). Do you hear the Savior calling today? Is God convicting you over your sins and revealing His Holiness to you?
If so do not reject such a great salvation. Repent and believe the Gospel. Repent from your sins and believe in the Lord Jesus. Believe in His finished work on the cross. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God (1 John 5:11-13).
I’m Sorry The Chiefs Are Not In The Super Bowl
I’m sorry that the Chiefs are not in the Super Bowl this year. But this is minor thing. Nothing is more important than where you will spend eternity. It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). One day you will breathe your last breath. It won’t matter that your team was in the Super Bowl at that time. It won’t even matter if your team wins the Super Bowl this year. What will matter is if you truly repented from your sins and believed in the Lord the Jesus.
What will matter is if you repented from your sins and surrendered your life fully to Jesus Christ the Lord. The Super Bowl won’t matter in the least bit when you die. What will matter is if you have eternal life or if you don’t have it. He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him (John 3:36). Repent and put your faith in Jesus. Do this today and be saved.
