So You Guys Are Christians?
Anand, Michael and I witnessed downtown Friday night. I got there first and as I was walking to the witnessing spot, I saw four teenagers standing around so I walked up and handed them tracts. The first young man took one, then as I handed a tract to the second one, he said, “What’s this?” I replied, “It’s a Gospel tract.” Then he said, “Oh, cool.” Then I asked them, “So you guys are Christians?” They shook their heads up and down.
Then I asked them how they became Christians? The third guy said from church and the fourth teenager said that he grew up in a Christian home. Since they didn’t mention anything about repentance and faith in Jesus, I shared a shortened version of my testimony with them. I told them how I spent 33 years as false convert and how I would have gone to Hell if I had died anytime before I was truly saved. I don’t want anyone to go to Hell. That’s why I hand out tracts and share the Gospel. They didn’t have any questions, so I asked them if they have Bibles and they said they do. I encouraged them to read the Bible every day. I shook their hands and thanked them for listening.
What Happens After You Die?
When Anand and Michael got there, we walked around downtown handing out tracts. We handed out tracts on the square. A couple of young men were there and Anand handed them tracts. They both took one. So I asked them what happens after you die? The one was looking at his phone and didn’t look up, but replied “Heaven.” My next question was, how do you get to Heaven? He replied, “Church.” So I asked him if any church can get you there. He didn’t reply, so I clarified that I wasn’t making fun of him, I sincerely wanted to know if all churches get you to Heaven or just certain ones. He kept looking at his phone and didn’t say anything. So I politely pointed out that Jesus was harder on religious leaders when He walked this earth than He was on any other anyone else. His friend seemed to be listening, so I just told them that going to church doesn’t save you. We are saved through repentance and faith in Jesus. I encouraged them to read the tracts and thanked them for listening.
Then we walked on to the corner of South and Walnut. We handed out tracts on the way to the spot and while we were there. It was actually a pretty quiet night, so we really fellowshipped together more than anything else for the rest of the night. Right before we were ready to call it a night, I saw Allen, Carl and Rachel across the street. Allen had been in a Gospel conversation with someone. Afterwards, they were walking down the street when I caught Allen’s attention. They came over and I visited with Allen for a few minutes. He told me that they had been at the mall and he witnessed to a guy from Israel. Allen had a Jewish Gospel tract on him and thankfully the guy took it. After a little while, Anand, Michael and I called it a night and we handed out more tracts as we went back to our cars.
Why Christianity Booklets
I didn’t open-air preach at MSU on Wednesday. Instead, I handed out Ray Comfort’s Why Christianity booklets instead. When I hand out tracts to students, I just want to get them in their hands, so I really try to just get out as many as I can. If they ask what they are I don’t try to hide it. But most of the time they won’t stand around and talk, so I just hand them out, hoping they will read them later. But these booklets cost about 30 cents apiece, so I wanted the students to know what they were getting. Praise God that over 140 students took them in about 45 minutes. One lady said “God bless you” after she realized what it was. A couple of students literally had their hands on the booklet and when they saw the word Christianity, they immediately released it. But I was pleasantly surprised that so many students took one. I hope and pray that they read them and may God direct them to strong, true Christians if they have more questions.
