Silent Mockers
Ministry Update October 7, 2018
Unlike last week where I encountered vocal mockers at Missouri State University, this week was silent mockers. Not a single person said a word, but I could tell by the look in their eyes that they didn’t want to hear the message. Maybe they don’t like the method of open-air preaching. Either way, I could see that many students were silent mockers. One student stood and listened for a while. I asked him if he had any questions and he just said no, so I kept bringing the message. A little later Brittany stopped to listen before she had to head on to class. She smiled and waved as she left. It’s always great to see her. Brittany is an encouraging believer, even when she just smiles and waves as she walks by me.
Not So Silent Mockers
Then Friday night, my wife and I witnessed downtown during Art Walk, Unlike MSU and the silent mockers, there were vocal mockers downtown. One woman walking by said something I couldn’t understand, but could understand her tone. Another guy mouthed off as he was sitting at the stop sign. One guy that was with a group of people briefly recorded me from across the street. A young man riding a skateboard mocked as he rode by with his friends. But the most vile mocker was a guy who turned the corner, stopped right in front of me, shined a flashlight at me and asked if it was ok for him to perform a sex act on his buddy in the passenger seat. They both laughed as they drove away.
It appears that many people have no idea that you reap what you sow and mockers like these who sow the wind are going to reap God’s whirlwind (Hosea 8:7). I wouldn’t want to be either of them on Judgment Day if they continue rebelling against God until the day they die. They won’t be mocking God on Judgment Day when they kneel before Jesus Christ the Lord (Romans 14:11). There will be no mercy on the great and terrible day of the Lord for those who die in their sins, who reject the Lord Jesus. Oh that men and women would repent and believe the Gospel, but just like Jesus said when he walked this earth “they repented not” (Matthew 11:20).
(If you are thankful that Jesus saved you, please share the Gospel with others. Whether they receive or reject the message, we are called to share the Gospel with this lost and dying world. It shouldn’t surprise us when people mock God.For the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who perish; but unto us who are saved, it is the power of God – 1 Corinthians 1:18.)
