Savior Of The World
I love reading the Bible and the other day I was reading John 4 about Jesus and the woman at the well. It’s a great story, but what really jumped out at me was the people of Sychar called Jesus the Savior of the world. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and there is no other. The Lord Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords and He is the only Savior of the world.
Acts 12:4 states: Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent (John 17:3).
And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:13-16).
The Only Savior
Jesus is the only Savior of mankind. There is no other. Also, please note that it’s extremely important to know who the Savior of the world is – according to God’s word. There are many cults out there that claim Jesus Christ but they do not know the Jesus of the Bible. Mormons even call themselves the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. But they don’t know the Jesus of the Bible. Jehovah’s Witnesses are actually Jehovah’s false witnesses. They also don’t know the Jesus of the Bible.
Anyone can twist the Scriptures around to say what they want, but here’s a really easy clue that a religion is a cult: when they come up with a whole new book that’s supposed to be a new revelation from God or a whole new bible. Another clue to false religions is that they promote man working his way to heaven. Christianity is Jesus – coming down to man – to save His very own creation. Jesus- the Jesus of the Bible is the only Savior of the world.
The Woman At The Well
Now I’d like to read from John chapter 4 about Jesus – the Savior of the world. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink (John 4:5-7). Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
I Perceive That You Are A Prophet
The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he (John 4:8-26). The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him (John 4:28-30).
And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world (John 4:39-42).
Heard Him Ourselves
We have heard Him ourselves and now that this indeed is the Christ, the Savior of the world. Oh, what wonderful words. How exciting it is when God reveals His Holiness to a lost soul. When God shows an unrepentant sinner mercy and they see their sinfulness in light of God’s Holiness and all they can do is cry out for God to save them.
When people truly repent of their sins and surrender their lives to the Savior of the world. This indeed is the Christ, the Savior of the world. Oh, have you met the Lord? Is Jesus your Lord and Savior? Have you truly repented of your sins and put your faith in Christ Jesus? Are you saved or are you still lost and on the broad road to destruction? Oh, come to Jesus and be saved. Many of the Samaritans believed in Jesus after hearing Him speak. People are still being saved the same way today – believing in Jesus after hearing Him speak.
Do You Expect To Hear A Voice Booming From Heaven?
No, I’m not talking about a voice coming out of Heaven sounding like thunder where Jesus says “Come to Me and be saved.” Jesus still speaks to us through the Bible. Jesus is the Word – the living Word. Faith come by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). If Jesus is not your Lord and Savior, I highly encourage you to read the Bible. We have some free Bibles if you want one. You can read one you already own, get one from us or read the Bible online. It doesn’t matter, but read God’s word.
Ask God to reveal Himself to you. Read the book of John, then go back to Matthew and read the New Testament. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humbly, read the Bible asking God to show if it is true. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. God graciously saved me 13 years ago while I was reading the Bible. I actually started with Genesis and read through the Bible. While reading the New Testament, God convicted me that I was an unrepentant sinner and that God is Holy. He also convicted me that I was lost and headed for Hell. I cried out for God to save me and He did. Salvation is of the Lord. We are not trying to get you to repeat a prayer or ask Jesus into your heart.
No Gimmicks Needed Here
When God convicts you over your sins, when you cry out for God to save you, He does. God doesn’t need any man-made tricks or devices to get people saved. Jesus isn’t running for office and He’s not looking for your decision. No, when God saves a person, He grants them repentance and faith in Jesus Christ the Lord – the only Savior of the world.
No one comes to Jesus unless God the Father draws them. Jesus is grace and truth. You have to hear the truth before it sinks in, before it registers with you. Recognize that you are a sinner, that you have sinned against God. We’ve all lied. Most of us have stolen something – even it was something small or of little value. None of us have loved God with all of our heart, soul and mind. We have made idols and loved idols. An idol is anything you love more than God.
What do you spend your money, time and talent on? That will tell you what you truly love. Oh folks, admit that you have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Cry out for God to save you. Repent and put your faith in Jesus. Trust in the Savior of the world for your salvation. Trust in His finished work on the cross. Come to Jesus and be saved. Turn to Christ and live. He is the only Savior of mankind and Jesus is the Savior of the world.
