Professor Brings Class Out To Meet Open-Air Preacher
Ministry Update September 18, 2016
Aaron, Brian and I witnessed at Missouri State University on September 14, 2016. The “free hug” professing Christians took our spot where we normally witness. So we witnessed at Strong Hall (where they have religious classes). We preached a couple of times and when Aaron went the second time, a crowd gathered and one of Aaron’s former professor brought her class out to meet him. They listened to his message and then she introduced her students to Aaron because she wanted them to see that the man is mild mannered compared to the open-air preacher. Yes, Aaron preaches hard, because eternal souls are in the balance. But he is mild mannered when talking about spiritual matters. Aaron stayed there answering questions for over an hour and a half. May God continue working on the lost souls that heard the Gospel.
Brian preached, handed out tracts and got into two different conversations with atheists. He had pretty long conversations with both men. I’m sure that he gave them some things to think about. We had a little of the typical craziness. One guy who on another occasion told me to keep the Gospel away from me, actually hissed and put his hand up like a claw. I asked him if he thought that would really help protect him. An older guy was jogging by me and he took a tract and promptly threw it back at me. Then a young woman walked by and told me that no one wants us here. I thanked her and continued handing out tracts.
Prayer Walker
But I also had a student ask me if I knew another student and I told him that the student he asked about is my nephew. He took a tract and I asked the student if he has a Bible and he said yes. He had to get on to class so he didn’t stick around for very long. Before my friends got there, I handed out some tracts and one woman took one and later she walked by and thanked me for being there. She said it was a real encouragement to her. She told me that she came over to prayer walk, that her toe was messed up and her mom is having health issues and she didn’t know why God wanted her to prayer walk that day. That’s when she said it was an encouragement to her running into me. I told her that I had two friends were joining me shortly and she really liked hearing that.
Free Hugs
Also before we started, I walked by our usual spot just to see who had taken it and that’s when I saw the free huggers who are part of a Christian group that promotes their group and offers free hugs. I recognized one guy from last year so I asked him how giving free hugs for Jesus was any different than atheists giving free hugs. I told him that my daughter who lives in another state is an atheist and she holds up free hugs signs and gives free hugs. I asked him how people receiving his free hug can tell any difference from atheists who also give free hugs. He admitted that they probably can’t tell a difference. So I asked him if he’s not giving them Jesus, what is he really giving them and he didn’t have an answer.
Quiet Friday Night After Raining All Afternoon
Then on Friday, Aaron, Erica, Diana, Elise and I witnessed downtown. Thankfully it stopped raining while we were there. But since it had rained all afternoon and into early evening, the crowd was light. But we sang hymns and preached the Gospel anyway. A few people stopped to listen. A couple of girls took pictures of me while I was on the box. A guy who frequently mocks us flipped us off while we were singing. But an old friend stopped and listened to the messages. It is always a blessing to lift up the precious name of Jesus in the open, whether there’s a large or a small crowd. Jesus is the One who suffered, bled and died for guilty sinners like us. He is the only way of salvation and He is worthy of all honor, praise and glory. May the Lamb that was slain receive the glory that is due Him.
(These updates are provided to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus Christ with others. Today may be the last day you ever get to tell people about Jesus. Would you really want to waste your last day on earth and not tell people about the greatest gift of all time? Please tell others they need to repent and believe the Gospel. That’s what Jesus did when He walked this earth – Mark 1:15.)
