No Safe Places In Hell
Every now and then a student at Missouri State University will say they don’t feel safe while I’m open-air preaching. They want to find a safe place. I’m sorry that some young people get “triggered” when hearing God’s truth, but I really don’t know what’s going to happen to this generation. You can’t call time out in real life and say, “I need to go to my safe place.” This isn’t reality. The really sad reality is there are no safe places in Hell.
Can you imagine some who’s been coddled their whole life and they die in their sins? They die in their rebellion against God and their rejection of Jesus Christ as Lord? Can you imagine them finding themselves in Hell, suffering pain and agony like they’ve never imagined? Oh, can you see them crying, “Time out!” “Time out!” “I need my safe space” and receiving no answer and no relief?
Yes, God’s truth makes people feel uncomfortable. Hearing that you are a sinner and God is Holy doesn’t make you feel safe. It shouldn’t make you feel safe. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). In other words, you spend your whole life pretending God isn’t real, you continue suppressing the truth in unrighteousness because you love your sins and you will wind up in Hell, if you die as a rebel against God. Only a foolish person would do that.
God Is Not Going To Listen To Your Complaints
Again, there are no safe places in Hell. God is not going to listen to your complaints, begging or pleading for mercy. If you die in your sins, you will wind up in Hell. No relief, no mercy, no second chances and no safe places. So I’m here to tell you that a little unpleasantness, being a little uncomfortable, being confronted with the reality of your sins is the best thing that can happen to you.
Should God open your spiritually blind eyes and open your spiritually deaf ears and unharden your hard heart, would be the best thing that ever happened to you. What you need is to see that you are a sinner and God is Holy and you have offended God. You don’t need a safe place right now. No, you need to know the reality of God being angry with you over your sins and how only God’s love can save you from God’s wrath. His righteous wrath that burns forever against those who die in their sins.
He that believes on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him (John 3:36). You need to hear this truth today if Jesus is not your Lord and Savior. Yes, you need to hear that there are none righteous, no not one. As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one (Romans 3:10-12).
Born With A Sinful Nature
Oh, what you need to hear is that we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden and every mere mortal has sinned after them. All of us are born with a sinful nature. We go away from God from the womb. We seek our own pleasure. All of us want to be in charge of our own lives. We want to rule ourselves. None of us want to bow the knee to King Jesus in our unregenerate state.
You don’t need to hear that you will be alright, that you are safe and you don’t need to worry. No, instead you need to flee from the wraith to come! You need to hear that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
Instead of being pampered and running to your safe place, you need to be confronted with the reality that you are a sinner; God is Holy and He is angry with you and you are headed for the broad road to destruction. You are headed for Hell. Oh, you need to understand that there are no safe places in Hell. Hell is horrific. It is place of torments. It was established for the devil and the demons, but men and women foolishly fall into it. Maybe even while heading for their safe place.
Hell Is The Opposite Of Safe
Hell is the opposite of safe. It is pain and suffering like you have never known. Have you ever had a pain that was so severe that all you could do is grind your teeth in agony? Jesus said Hell is a place where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth and the worm never dies. In other words, it is eternal. There is no end to the misery and suffering for those who die in their sins and split Hell wide open.
Jesus talked about Hell more than anyone else in the Bible. In Matthew 10:28, Jesus said: And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.
And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched’ (Mark 9:42-48).
More Descriptions Of Hell
The smoke of their torment rises forever and ever and they have no rest day or night (Revelation 14:11). The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:41-42).
Hell is an awful place and it is where all unrepentant sinners are headed, if they die in their sins. Don’t do it. Don’t foolishly die in your sins and go to Hell. Jesus said, Enter in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in there at: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it (Matthew 7:13-14).
There are no safe places in Hell. You need God to save you from God. Yes, you heard that correctly. You need the mercy and grace from God to save you from the wrath of God. There are no safe places in Hell, but safety is found in the salvation of the Lord. Only Jesus saves. Trust in the Lord today and be saved. Repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ the Lord.
Turn To The Lord And Be Saved
“Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that cannot save. Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me.
“Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance’ (Isaiah 45:20-23). Jesus is Lord; Lord of all. There is no other savior. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
The salvation found in Christ Jesus is the only safe place from the wrath of God. There are no safe places in Hell. Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Oh, but you must do so in this life! Turn to Christ and live. Turn from your sins and turn to Christ Jesus!
Trust Jesus There Is Safety In The Lord
Recognize that you are a sinner. Confess and forsake your sins. Cry out for God to save you; for God to be merciful to you. Repent from your sins and put your faith in Jesus. Come to the Lord His way, through repentance and faith. Don’t trust in yourself, your good works (works can’t save you), trust in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation.
Then you will know peace and safety. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust (Psalm 91:1-2). God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1). I will both lay down in peace, and sleep: for you, Lord, only make me dwell in safety (Psalm 4:8). There are no safe places in Hell, but there is safety in Jesus Christ the Lord. Repent and surrender your life to the Lord Jesus. Do this today and be saved.
