No One’s Listening To You
Ministry Update November 17, 2019
A student turned the corner in front of me on Wednesday at MSU and yelled, “No one’s listening to you.” I ignored him, so he turned around and yelled it again and this time I ignored him as well. This comment is nothing new. Mockers love to discourage the Gospel going forth. But even if they are right and “no one is listening” the Gospel is still going forth. God’s word does not return void (Isaiah 55:11). Those whose hearts are being softened by the Lord are being softened and those whose hearts are being hardened are being hardened. Jesus Christ is glorified either way. Of course my hope and prayer is that lost souls will be saved, that they will repent and trust Jesus.
The second mocker was a little strange. I was saying that all abortions are murder and I was pleading with young women that if they find themselves pregnant this year that they shouldn’t kill the baby. I also pleaded with the young men to not coerce a woman into having an abortion if they get a woman pregnant. A student turned around and yelled “witch”. I admit that I may have misheard him, but that’s what it sounded like he said and I have no idea what he meant.
Later on the polite mocker walked by and since I no longer banter with him, he has become a silent mocker. About the time I finished open-air preaching, a student that I recognize nodded toward me. He’s good about encouraging me when he sees me and I appreciate him very much. Thankfully, several students took tracts before and after the message was lifted up.
No I’m Not Christian
I only had a couple of mockers Friday night. Most people just walked by and didn’t say anything. One guy mocked while getting in his car and another one mocked as he walked by. One driver tried to drown out the message by revving his engine. But I also had a couple walking a dog say “God bless you” as they walked by. One driver that was parked across the street listened to quite a bit of the message.
Even though I thought last week was tough handing out New Testaments, this week was even tougher. Only five people took New Testaments. But one of those was a bouncer at a bar on South Street. I’m sure that he’s refused them in the past, but thankfully he took one this time. Sadly, most people said no. One young woman that appeared to be college age said, “No, I’m not Christian.”
I really wanted to talk to her and her friend to find out more, but it was really cold and they both just kept walking. It’s heart breaking to think about this young woman that is “not Christian” facing Christ Jesus on Judgment Day (Revelation 20:11-15). Since people weren’t taking New Testaments, I switched to handing out Gospel tracts. But that didn’t help any. I literally only handed out one tract. It was a tough night witnessing, but the name of Jesus Christ the Lord was still lifted up.
(These updates are given to encourage Christians to share the Gospel. No matter what happens, we do all for the glory of Jesus Christ our Lord.)
