No Excuses
There will be no excuses on Judgment Day and make no mistake, there is a day of judgment that is coming. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment (Hebrews 9:27). A day of reckoning is coming for all unrepentant sinners and unbelief, ignorance, outright rejection or rebellion will be no excuse. There will be absolutely no excuses on that great and terrible day of the Lord.
God has revealed Himself to mankind in many ways. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.
So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things (Romans 1:19-23).
God Reveals Himself Through Creation
Psalm 19:1-6 also confirms that God has revealed Himself through creation. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
God clearly has shown us by creation that He is the great Creator God. Only a fool says there is no God. The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good (Psalm 53:1).
Some People Deny The Reality Of God
Romans 1 also tells us that people deny the reality of God because they suppress the truth in unrighteousness. Unrepentant, rebellious sinners don’t want to acknowledge Almighty God that they are accountable to. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth (Romans 1:18).
Not only does God reveal Himself to us through creation, He also gives every human being a God-given conscience. In addition to this, He also writes His laws upon our hearts. We are made in the very image of God. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them (Genesis 1:26).
They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus (Romans 2:15-16).
Absolutely No Excuses
No excuses. Absolutely none. God reveals Himself to us externally and internally. There will be no excuses on Judgment Day. The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” (Acts 17:30-31). God commands everyone, everywhere to repent. Please notice it’s a command, not a suggestion. So again, there will be no excuses on the day of judgment.
Not only will there be no excuses on Judgment Day, but every mouth will be stopped. All the burning questions that unbelievers think they are going to ask God will disappear without a trace. No human is going to be the prosecutor on Judgment Day. All unrepentant sinners who die in their sins, die as guilty criminals. Judgment Day is not a trial date, it’s a day of sentencing. We’ve all fallen short of God’s glory. None of us are righteous on our own.
Without Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have no hope. Again, you will have no excuse and your mouth will be stopped. Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may become guilty before God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin (Romans 3:19-20).
Mouths Of Unbelievers will Be Stopped
Matthew 22:1-13 also tells us that the mouths of unbelievers will be stopped on Judgment Day. And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’
But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’
And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests. “But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Guilty Before God
Romans 3:19 says every mouth will be stopped and all the world will be accountable or guilty before God. Mathew 22:12 says the man was speechless. Every mouth is stopped and people are speechless before a Holy and righteous God. Listen to what Isaiah said when he was in the presence of Almighty God. In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” (Isaiah 6:1-5).
Please notice that Isaiah wasn’t cocky, strutting around demanding God answer his questions. No, Isaiah was scared half to death. He recognized his sinfulness and God’s Holiness and he cried out, “Woe is me!” Also, please notice the angels cry out Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts.
No Excuses On The Great And Terrible Day Of The Lord
Oh, folks, there will be no excuses on the great and terrible day of the Lord. You may very well pretend there is no God right now, but when you are in the presence of the Almighty, all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present God, you will quake, you will feel fear like you’ve never known in this life. You will literally fall to the ground as if you were dead.
No mocking, no scoffing, no playing games on the day of the Lord. Thinking you were too busy, will be no excuse. Jesus even describes this when He told the parable about different soil types. Jesus tells about those who are caught up in the cares of this world in Matthew 13:22: As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
Again, there will be absolutely no excuses, none at all on the day of judgment. If you die without the Lord Jesus Christ, you will hang your head on Judgment Day, you will bow your knee and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, but it will be too late. Jesus will have His servants cast you into the lake of fire where you will suffer for all eternity.
Do Not Harden Your Heart
Do not harden your heart tonight. Acknowledge that you have offended God Almighty. Cry out for God to have mercy upon you. Repent from your sins and put your trust in Jesus Christ. Trust in His finished work on the cross. You can’t earn salvation. You can’t bribe God or work your way to Heaven.
Salvation is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ. Come to him as a beggar dying of thirst. He is the fountain of living water. In Revelation 22:17, Jesus says: The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Come to Jesus Christ and be saved. No excuses will work on Judgment Day. Today is the day of salvation. Now is the time to get right with God. Don’t continue rebelling against the Lord God. Instead, call upon the name of the Lord and be saved. Repent and believe the Gospel and receive eternal life.
